A seventh-grade student brought a gun to Achievement First Summit Middle School in Hartford on Wednesday, according to police, and they have secured the firearm. Police responded to the school on Wednesday morning and said the student had a gun in a backpack at the school, which is located on Greenfield Street, and they secured the gun and the student. A man has been arrested in connection to shots fired at a popular shopping area in North Haven on Tuesday night. Officers were called to the Target plaza on Universal Drive around 9:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. A witness reported seeing someone fire more than one shot from a gun and then run into a silver SUV. Police arrived and found a silver SUV behind Target. The archbishop of Hartford, Archbishop Leonard Blair, has retired and the Most Reverend Christopher Coyne has now assumed the office. The Archdiocese of Hartford said Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Archbishop Blair in Rome around noon. Archbishop Blair served in his role since December 2013 and is retiring at the age of 75 in keeping with church law, the Archdiocese of Hartford previously said.
