Spring-Inspired Quilts
The Blanket Statement Blog

I'm not sure about where you live... but here in Winnipeg, spring is always a little reluctant to make its annual appearance. But the snow has melted and I can finally feel the warmth of the sun! (At least for now, I'm ignoring the snowy forecast!) Even though our plants haven't really started sprouting yet, the Canadian geese have returned. Ask a Canadian... that's a true sign of spring!  Over the last few weeks, as I've eagerly awaited spring's arrival, the anticipation of warmer days and blooming flowers sparked my creativity. I've been experimenting with new colours that I thi ..read more

The Falcon Ridge Quilt: Rainbow Version
The Blanket Statement Blog

The Falcon Ridge Quilt just released, and I’ve been having so much fun making different versions of it! My original vision and design for this pattern uses colours in a radiating ombré effect to mimic the sun setting over a lake. You can read more about it here!   But you know me… I love a good rainbow quilt (check out a recent Steep Rock quilt here). I wanted to continue exploring my creativity in a fun and colourful way, which is how I ended up making this retro-inspired, rainbow Falcon Ridge quilt! To make this Falcon Ridge rainbow version, the fabric requirements are a littl ..read more

The West Hawk Quilt: Sprout Wovens Version
The Blanket Statement Blog

Can you imagine a more beautiful combination than the West Hawk Quilt and Sprout Wovens by Fableism Supply Co?  They’re perfect together, if I do say so myself.  But here’s the truth. I was embarrassed when I finished this quilt. Not because of how it looked… but because of how long it took me to complete it. *Spoiler Alert! This is silly, don’t be like me.*  It took me 16 months. Yes, SIXTEEN months from start to finish! Between social media making it seem like people can make a quilt in a day and actually being the kind of quilter who HAS made a quilt in a day, this timeline ..read more

The Paint Lake Quilt: Monarch Grove Version
The Blanket Statement Blog

What happens when you mix Monarch Grove by Fableism Supply Co and the Paint Lake Quilt pattern? True love. That’s what. The Paint Lake Quilt has always been one of my all-time favourite patterns… and let me tell you why! The intention behind this pattern design was to make something that felt like a scrappy quilt without the need for any improvisation. The phrase “curated chaos” consistently directed my thought process. I have made and remade this pattern probably more than any other and it’s always fascinating! Solids, prints, you name it… it’s an easy win! And using Monarch Grove by F ..read more

Susan's Road Trip
The Blanket Statement Blog

When I retired, I was one tired mama.  I had been working more than full time for a number of years and had become an expert on being distracted, impatient and bossy.  A friend was selling his 1988 Westfalia van, so we bought it and I started to plan a "short" getaway for the month after retirement. I knew I wanted to drive south to evade the frosty Canadian winter temperatures.  The trip evolved into a four month solo odyssey through dozens of U.S. national and state parks. It was transformative. I learned to slow down, to be fully present and to enjoy the solitude that woods ..read more

Introducing: Erin's Mom
The Blanket Statement Blog
by Erin Kroeker

Hi. I'm Erin's mom. For many years I was just Bill and Jean's daughter. Then I was Mark's girlfriend and eventually his wife. He was (and still is....) a singer and everyone knew his name and no one knew mine. And I didn't mind that. Then there came the years when I discovered my own voice and surged forward, out of the shadows and into the limelight as Susan Moore. In fact, Mark even became Susan's husband for a while.   Now, I'm an old woman, more secure in who I am and more than content to be, once again, known by my relationships rather than my notoriety or accomplishments. So ..read more
