The AGM will start at 10.00am.
Only paid up members will be invited to attend the AGM.

Laboklin have announced a new DNA test for Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the digit / toe (SCCD) in Giant Schnauzers, which sounds like good news but, whilst it could be helpful, it does not give the certainty of ‘clear’ ‘carrier’ or ‘affected’ test results as with prcd-PRA, DCM, PRA5 etc (which are inherited recessively).

The Kennel Club has announced changes to accepted laboratories it will accept DNA results from in order to align with the changing landscape of the genetic testing industry.

The Kennel Club and breed health co-ordinators have been asked to disseminate information regarding the University of Glasgow’s clinical trial for a new canine epilepsy treatment medication.
Dogs must be:
Age: more than 2 years
Diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy with a normal MRI scan and CSF
Having more than 4 seizures a month despite having tried at least 2 anti-seizure medications
Otherwise healthy

On 1st November 2022 the Kennel Club’s DNA Testing Services was relaunched, (previously CombiBreed), with a few changes to the breed’s DNA bundle.
DNA profiling is included as standard for the Giant Schnauzer bundle, producing a ISAG 2020 SNP profile. The original DNA tests, DCM, PRA5, and prcd-PRA, are provided as before in the bundle, and prcd-PRA is also available as a separate single test (N.B. single test packages do not come with profiling)

Kennel Club CombiBreed Changes
As of today, Kennel Club CombiBreed will be placed on hold, until the relaunch of an improved DNA Testing Service on 1st November. Although the product will be removed from The Kennel Club website, all CombiBreed orders already placed will be processed as normal.

The new service will be renamed The Kennel Club DNA Testing Services. Orders resume from 1 November 2022 with an introductory offer for all dog breeders and owners to take advantage of.
