How long does it take to potty train a puppy?
Brightstar Labradoodles Blog
by Debby Palencia
5M ago
To potty train a puppy will take approximately 4-6 months for a puppy to be fully house trained, although some puppies can take longer. Size plays a very important role since smaller breeds have smaller bladders and higher metabolisms and require more frequent trips outside. Puppies need to relieve themselves approximately six times a day. A puppy should be taken out immediately after each meal since a full stomach puts pressure on the colon and bladder. After about 8, 9, 10 weeks of age, or when the puppy arrives at it's new home, the dog should be taught to go potty outside.Remember the tra ..read more

It is important to note that therapy dogs are not service dogs nor assistant animals. Why is my Labradoodle shedding?

Our labradoodles are allergy-friendly and don't shed for the main reason that their fur coat is very curly and the straighter it is, the more they would shed. But sometimes they will shed a little bit anyways depending on their fur coat. So don't panic! It is normal if they shed a little bit and here is how to stop the shedding if you notice it: Brush your labradoodle's hair every few days with a fur brush or even just a normal dog brush. The brushing will help brush off the loose fur that is on your labradoodle and lessen the shedding. But make sure it is a good brush, as well as a slicker br ..read more

Do labradoodles have hair or fur?

Labradoodles have hair as opposed to fur, which means it consistently grows instead of falling out like fur. Another reason labradoodles are known for having minimal shedding and being hypoallergenic is because Australian Labradoodles shed less frequently than many other dog breeds. The total hair length on different parts of aa dog’s body is completely determined by genetics and breed. Each hair follicle grows for a time and then stops its growth in the state of halt – means, not growing. Just as us humans have variations in hair across different parts of our body, dog fur is just another way ..read more

How to choose a puppy

1. Puppy's personality The first thing I look at is how much do they love people? Do they want to please their owners? Are they friendly towards strangers? These are some of the things I look at when picking a puppy for therapy work. 2. Training I train them to sit, stay, lay down, walk on a leash, and even play fetch. I teach them basic commands and how to interact with different types of clients. I teach them to not jump on people and to always have their mouth closed while playing with children. I also teach them how to deal with different situations and what to do if someone gets upset. 3 ..read more
