Wylie’s Story originally appeared in the July – September issue of The Vizsla News. A SPECIAL NEEDS PUPPY On April 21, 2011 we had the litter from hell.  At least it was our litter from hell.  Whelping took from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm with only two puppies born.   We needed a trip to the vet for a possible C-section to get the remaining five puppies out.  Only four out of seven pups survived.  Three were mummified in the womb.  Wylie, the first out, was the smallest pup about 6 oz.  He had to be swung and rubbed ..read more

A feature from the July – September 2023 issue of The Vizsla News. This article was provided by the VCA Welfare Foundation. With hunting season upon us, it’s good to be prepared for the unexpected. We have multiple first aid kits in our household—one for the backpack, one for the car and one for the house. Fall is a good time to replenish your supplies. We put together this useful guide so you can check the box and make sure you’re covered. These kits are no substitute for proper veterinary care. Rather, these kits are intended to buy time until you can get to your vet or critical care clinic ..read more

A feature from the July – September 2023 issue of The Vizsla News. We’ve had a really weird summer in Colorado as it rained ALL through June. So much so, that I have barely had one ripe tomato in my garden as the season was totally delayed. It got me thinking that it’s probably about time that I share my favorites for rain gear, and I picked Dylan’s brain for his faves in menswear too. Womens Splurge: Rainrunner Pack Jacket 2.0 – $198 Janji.com You know what I hate about most rainjackets? They way they make you feel inside the jacket – warm and muggy. Apparently I’m not the only one with th ..read more

A feature from the April – June 2023 of The Vizsla News. Happy Summer Friends! Summer in Colorado means hiking season is at it’s peak. Nothing like the fresh mountain air, waterfall discoveries, and exercising with your Vizslas. Womens Splurge – GREAT DIVIDE TANK $49 stio.com My favorite thing about this tank is the additional coverage to my back to cover my hiking pack straps. Nail Care 101 originally appeared in the January – March 2023 edition of The Vizsla News We’ve all seen it… the long curled talon-like nails on random dog while scrolling through social media or while having a beer at a local brewery. And it seems we all have the same reaction: “oh my gosh, look at that dog’s NAILS!” While long nails are not aesthetically pleasing, and make a point of conversation, it is good to take a step back and remember why the hygiene practice is of importance and where to start to create and maintain pretty trimmed toes. No matter the venue of participation from hunting ..read more

A feature from the January – March 2023 of The Vizsla News. Well, it’s that time! The National Vizsla Specialty is coming up so I thought we’d feature some Save and Splurge items for the show ring. And who better to feature than two VCA Members that ended their day in purple and gold. Greg Dutson and Ania Romano Kelly were nice enough to share details of their winning looks and I found some similar items for you. Womens When it comes to winning looks for women, I tapped on Ania Romano Kelly for advice. Ania is a 3rd generation Vizsla breeder and has had quite a bit of success at our Nationals ..read more

Lost, Missing, Stolen, Gone… is a feature from The Vizsla News. Vizslas are more than dogs, they are family and they share a bond with their humans that is stronger than words could ever describe. Our outings and vacations are planned to include our four-legged companions everywhere we can, or when we must leave those sad red faces behind, it is only with those we’d trust with our own lives. In a fraction instant your world can be turned upside down; a spook, a chase, or an ill-intentioned stranger is all it takes for your dog to be featured on the next missing dog post. Those who have lived t ..read more
