First let me be clear. People choosing to “move their body” is a healthy habit …one that we are designed as humans to do. The fitness industry on the other hand has used this healthy habit as a way to SELL mindless programs and “fitness plans” to make a quick buck. As a coach for the past 20 years I can attest to witnessing many “fads” and marketed “online fitness templated programs” targeted to a population of folks looking for sexy, insta-result marketed fitness.
With the current pandemic and everyone training from their homes or garage gyms there is an exponential growth in online training ..read more

I really believe that life hands you what you need to learn. And so when I was t-boned at 55mph on HWY 33 this past Christmas Eve and was extracted from my vehicle with a shattered pelvis, a broken sacrum and fibula, and a ruptured bladder, I had a big serving of learning coming my way.
We have a choice in life to be open to the opportunities presented by trauma and challenge or to run the other direction. But being in a wheelchair for 5 weeks and on crutches for another 6, I wasn’t running anywhere. I couldn’t even walk or do a sit-up. And so I had to be open to learning the lessons that com ..read more

Honoring the Body as a vehicle for Highest Purpose.
Just like that, another year has ended, and another has begun.
Life energy is in constant motion, and we can either resist or open to life as it is. The expressions and experiences in our daily lives are relative reflections of the intentions behind our actions and the attitudes we carry with us through all of life’s circumstances.
I have recently been reflecting on the issue of “fitness bypassing” within our culture, which I relate to as the use of a fitness routine/training to go around one's issues and challenges instead of going through ..read more

An EcoBolic Podcast from February 19, 2018
Listen here
Robin's coaching philosophy is strongly based on building relationships with each individual she works within understanding what makes them tick. “I want to know my client’s strengths, limitations, motivations and other needs. Not every athlete is the same therefore every athlete needs to be coached in a way, which is suitable for them and supports what they value most.” Robin loves building a powerful prescription that not only enhances performance but educates the athletes on how to reach their full potential.
Prior to OPEX, Robin owned ..read more

The older we get, the MORE critical sleep becomes to ensure we are recovering to perform optimally. The sweet spot for sleep is between 7-9 hours, some folks may need more, or slightly less. If you NEED stimulants to get up in the morning or push through workouts, you’re not getting enough sleep.

WHAT LED YOU TO MTN LAB?
“I had a long-standing series of injuries (particularly neck and back pain) and ailments that needed more attention than what I found I could get in a typical CrossFit or other group strength class…. Basically, got tired of re-injuring myself.
Additionally, for the past ten years I have consistently ended ski season in rough shape. I would have tons of low back pain, very low energy. It would take me about 6 weeks to exercise a ..read more

When I reached out to Coach Lyons at MTN LAB in late 2020 I had a specific goal in mind: get fit for riding the GDMBR (Great Divide Mountain Bike Route) the following summer. You see, I’d been around bikes for years in other formats and had recently dabbled in a couple local Midwest bikepacking races (shout out to Heck Epic and Crusher EX). Those events then led me to consider such a seemingly crazy undertaking as the GDMBR after a friend opened my eyes to it.
Coach Lyons also happened to work with ultra endurance legend Jay Petervary, so I figured she had an appreciation for the nuances invo ..read more
