BUTTE A long-time sporting goods store in Butte is closing.
Buttes Bob Wards Sports and Outdoors will be permanently closing by mid-September, the stores General Manager Caitlyn Northey told KXLF this morning. Northey added she found out about the closing Monday. The store, located at 1925 Dewey Blvd., will remain open for its regular business hours until closing in September.
Bob Wards first opened in 1917 in Missoula and later expended to Butte, Bozeman, Helena and Hamilton. In October of 2022, the Utah-based Als Sporting Goods bought all the Bob Ward and Sons locations in Montana.

Thursday, April 25, 2024, marked the groundbreaking of The Montana Food Bank Networks' new 53,000-square-foot warehouse.
The warehouse will allow the food bank to expand and meet the increasing demand for its services.
The ceremony consisted of a ground blessing as well as partners and employees speaking about what this new facility will allow them to do and how it will help the community at large.
MFBN President and CEO Gayle Carlson said that without the communitys support, none of this would be possible.

BILLINGS- Its been eight months since a Billings father embarked on a mission to end student lunch debt for families in Billings Public Schools.
His goal is in reach, but Alex Clark says he needs several thousand more in donations to wipe out all debt through the end of the school year.
We are at approximately $20,000 raised, said Clark.
It all started in the fall of 2023 when he took to social media to address an issue plaguing many families in Billings who often find themselves falling behind on bills to feed their student attending Billings Public Schools.

BUTTE - Butte held its annual Chinese New Year parade in Uptown Saturday afternoon.
Celebrating the Year of the Dragon members of the Butte History Club danced the Chinese dragon through the streets of Uptown Butte and stopped along the way to give blessings to some of the businesses and wishing them good fortune in the new year. Hundreds of people followed the dragon and made noise to ward off evil spirits.

BUTTE - The removal and transport of waste material from the center of Butte, including portions of a slag wall along Silver Bow Creek, is about to begin and the haul route for that material will run through a busy west-end neighborhood.

BUTTE - With the high cost of living, its difficult for many people to feel thankful this time of year, but the volunteers at the Butte Emergency Food Bank have put together hundreds of bags of food so people in need can at least feel thankful for something this Thanksgiving.

WILSALL Prairie Song is an animal rescue, tucked just outside of Wilsall, Montana, below the Crazy Mountains. Theyve been rescuing and rehabilitating a surprising variety of animals.
Jesscy Zimmermann founded Prairie Song as a nonprofit in 2020, but shes been rescuing and working with animals for as long as she can remember.

MISSOULA - The Missoula Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive 63-year-old man on the corner of Ryman and Pine Saturday evening.
MPD reports officers performed life-saving measures but the man passed away.
The death is not considered to be suspicious at this time.

ANACONDA Theyre going to be rolling out the red carpet at Anacondas historic Washoe Theater as local students will be premiering their short films about avoiding drugs and other unhealthy behaviors.
Teams of students in Anaconda created short public service announcement films with the theme of "Celebrate Life, Live Drug-Free".
