The Memphis Grizzlies haven’t gotten off to a good start to the season.
Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension obviously put the team in a tough spot, and their injuries haven’t done much to help their cause.
However, that doesn’t mean their effort is acceptable, at least not according to Marcus Smart.
That’s why the former Boston Celtics star was livid at his teammates during their 22-point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves (via Alan Horton and ClutchPoints).

The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled mightily to begin this season after they finished with the second-best record in the NBA’s Western Conference last season.
They dropped to a 3-12 record on Friday after losing to the Phoenix Suns, who are starting to surge, 110-89.
Memphis fell apart in the fourth quarter, mustering only 16 points and getting outscored in that frame by 13, but one bright spot was the play of veteran guard Derrick Rose, who shot 8-of-9 and scored 17 points in just 21 minutes off the bench.

The Memphis Grizzlies have had a rough start to the 2023-24 season, and a big reason why has been injuries.
Center Steven Adams was declared out for the year before the season opener even took place because of a right knee injury, and Marcus Smart suffered an ankle injury in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
With star guard Ja Morant already out for the first 25 games of the season after being suspended due to his latest gun-related incident, the Grizzlies cannot afford to have additional key players sit out for extended stretches.

Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies has made a habit of sharing ambiguous, cryptic messages on social media and he was at it again on Tuesday night.
As noted by NBACentral, Morant posted a simple smiley face emoji as his team took on – and butted heads – with the Los Angeles Lakers.
It’s not entirely clear what Morant’s emoji is a reference to but it could be a number of things.

The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled mightily to start the season.
Injuries have hurt the team badly, and Ja Morant’s suspension has only made it tougher for Taylor Jenkins’ group.
But as usually happens when a player is out, someone has made the most of every expanded opportunity.
This time, it’s been Desmond Bane, who’s posting career highs all over the board.
As pointed out by StatMuse, the combo guard is putting up averages of 26.5 points, 4.5 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 3.5 three-pointers per game on 45/35/83 from the floor.

Frustrations are clearly mounting for the Memphis Grizzlies as they’ve endured one of the worst beginnings to a season in recent memory.
Through their first nine games, the Grizzlies are 1-8 and sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Memphis has been without Ja Morant who is still serving his 25-game suspension, but the team’s problems extend far past the superstar guard’s absence.
Despite their defense being just about the middle of the pack, the Grizzlies have been one of the worst offensive teams in the league as they struggle to get much g ..read more

Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins is prepared for a hefty fine from the NBA.
Jenkins let loose and didn’t hold back following a harsh loss to the Utah Jazz on Friday night.
He began his post-game press conference by telling the media to “saddle up.”
Following that, he kept going, according to a video shared by Damichael Cole, via Hoop Central.
“One of the most poorly officiated games I’ve ever seen. Record it. I’m fine with it. F—–g atrocious,” he said.

The Memphis Grizzlies haven’t gotten off to the start of the season they wanted.
Taylor Jenkins’ team has yet to win a game this season after four tries, and the fans are starting to lose their patience.
That’s why newcomer Marcus Smart took a leap forward and stepped up on social media to let the fans know that they’re right on track and getting better with every game, asking them to just bear with them.

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired more than just a good defender when they traded for Marcus Smart.
They also got a leader, someone who won’t hesitate to step up and show his face when things don’t go their way, and a guy who will get into everybody’s ears to let them know when they need to do better.
Notably, it didn’t take long before he showed those leadership skills.
According to Grizzlies beat writer Parker Fleming, Smart reminded everyone that you never see a championship won in the first game of the season.
