Hello TFF. Have a couple of heavily planted 55 gallon tanks and didn't notice this until a few weeks ago, but the last group of Platys I got at the local fish fish store had a couple of Swordtails in it. Don't ask why I didn't notice this because the size of the fish alone is a difference, not to mention the shape of the body. I'm really just the water changer and let nature do its thing. So, now I'm seeing fry and am anxious to see if there's much of a difference in the hybrid. I may...

So yesterday, I had our second Poecilia meeting for this year. I brought some bags of fish along but I came back with much more fish in return.Mostly, Fresh additions to me existing populations. Fresh blood is always good to have.
Also some bags with plants in it, several fish foods and a small sponge filter came home along with those livebearers ..read more

I purchased this small female Molly from the fish store about 2 months ago (maybe 1”) and it is now HUGE! I don’t mean pregnant huge since I have no males & it’s been 2 months now & still no fry. It’s just a very large fish. Not just in length (she is now about 2”) but just a big fish. Is this normal? She looks great & healthy but also like a shark in my tank lol.
I have enclosed some pics ..read more

A purely hypothetical question for those who have bred Endlers x Guppies, do you get better results going for male Endlers with female Guppies or male Guppies with female Endlers ..read more

Had 10 guppies since Feb, they’ve been through a few changes since then, as I add new aquascape bits and bobs, but the parameters have been largely stable. 9 of the guppies are still their normal selves, one has become pale (was even paler earlier - nearly white) and spends lots of time at the bottom of the tank breathing fast. I had the calcium rock out for a day or two, and must say the hardness is on the low side - could that be the problem. When I put food in (flakes) he seemed...

Good Morning,
Today it will be raining so Linda and I have decided it will be a great time to set up the 30 gallon for future live bearer fry.
The tank is 36 inches long and a dozen inches wide and tall. Linda is completely taken with raising fish children and by luck of the draw, no fore thought involved, we have started our fish keeping with live bearers. Thus far we have had Molly, Guppy, and swordtail litters. Endlers are also in a tank so we might expect them soon or later.
I have...

I have a 10 gallon with.. 50? 60? guppy fry and I have been feeding them powder food twice a day and occasionally BBS..
I have been changing 50% water every week. I had no deaths in the frys, they seem happy.. They range in age from 4 weeks to 3 days old.
But I went to change the water today and it was bad. Stank like a sewer. I am surprised they are all still alive.
I did my 50% change and I added a oversized hang on the back filter in addition to the already present sponge filter...
