Famous atheist says he identifies as a 'cultural Christian' and is 'horrified' by promotion of Islamic holiday Scientist and outspoken atheist Richard Dawkins said if he had to choose between Christianity and Islam, he would choose Christianity every time. www.foxnews.com Thought this was an interesting article in two aspects: 1) Dawkins draws a clear moral distinction between Christianity and Islam. That in itself is a major philosophical shift from “DNA neither cares nor knows. DNA just is. And we dance to its music.” 2) Dawkin's tone does indeed seem to have become tempered since his ..read more

Could you imagine a circumstance where repurposing human remains for nutritional purposes would be acceptable? How about in some kind of space colony, either travelling through space or on some barren planet? Astronauts recycle their pee. NASA just recycled 98% of all astronaut pee and sweat on the ISS (engineers are thrilled) Yes, the achievement hinges on better recycling tech for astronaut pee. www.space.com Is there a moral argument against extracting bio resources from human remains for the purposes of consumption? How about as fertilizer ..read more

No, I didn’t have one nor do I want to. When my time comes, I want to be like the deer or squirrel that dies from a perfectly placed headshot, breathing one second and dead as dirt the next. I was having a discussion with my daughter and she raised an interesting question. When folks say they had a NDE and got a glimpse of heaven, why does no one ever say they got a glimpse of the hot place, satan, the lake of fire and eternal suffering, etc? Having seen this, they then return to life full... Read more ..read more

Going to Turkey Dinner at my Cousin's house. His wife is VERY Progressive and VERY Christian. Can a Christian be Woke? Understanding “Wokeness” To answer this question, it’s important to first clarify what it means to be “woke.” In essence, being woke involves recognizing and acknowledging the systemic injustices that exist in society. It’s about understanding that racial, gender, economic, and other forms of inequality persist. Wokeness calls for advocacy, empathy, and a... Read more ..read more

Short but scientific vid focusing on Creationist cliches

Okay nothing controversial - no cursing, no political slant, no Christian bashing, just a short video from an actual scientist addressing the very common but generally outdated cliches/statements/questions that Creationist/Fundamentalist Christians rely on when arguing for & advocating their beliefs. We have heard these points over & over in this subforum, and to be honest they can open up a very complicated can of worms - that's "the nature of the beast" with science based versus... Given the situation Israel finds itself in where they are surrounded on 3 sides by peoples who would wipe them from the face of the earth, where every man, woman, and any child who is born into that tribe will come to embrace that same sentiment is it at least understandable why God would command Israel to completely wipe out entire tribes in the OT? Context: Some discussion in the PF sparked this post as essentially the same pragmatic solution is being debated there, albeit without the... Read more ..read more

Where is god?

I know this has been discussed before, but with everyone’s indulgence I’d like to reopen it. Within the last week, I’ve learned of two young men, both active Christians and with young children, that have been diagnosed with cancer, with one prognosis being especially ominous. So it begs the question, where is god and why isn’t he already working miracle cures? We’re back to either god can’t, or chooses not to. If it’s the latter, then young families will be left without a father and wage... Read more ..read more

Okay, just a short list of various "creator gods" both active and retired. This IS NOT a list of every different god, just those credited in their various religions with creation. My point is in the year 2023 CE Earth is a biiiiiiiiiiig old planet with a lot of different beliefs. Caveat, some of these are alternate names for what is essentially the same deity, such as Elohim, Yahweh, and the Holy Spirit are variations/aspects of the Christian God* but I think everyone will get the gist...
