ENAR is joining over 100 civil society forces calling for an end to the expansion of EURODAC, the EU database for the registration of asylum-seekers.
EURODAC, designed to collect and store migrants’ data, is being transformed into an expansive, violent surveillance tool that will treat people seeking protection as crime suspects. This will include children as young as 6 whose fingerprints and facial images will be integrated into the database.

In 2021, a young French citizen and her husband were illegally pushed back from Greece to Turkey, where they were imprisoned for over six years. ENAR is supporting front-LEX’s efforts in representing the victims in this first-ever case of an EU citizen pushback. As the trial unfolds at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), it represents an opportunity to expose and legally challenge the fundamentally racist nature of the EU’s border policies.

The European Network Against Racism is joining 15 other civil society voices raising concerns about the EU’s AI Act trialogues, particularly the Council of EU’s refusal to address critical human rights issues.
We urge the Council to reconsider its stance on prohibited AI practices (predictive policing and biometric surveillance), law enforcement exemptions, migration and national security in order to ensure that the AI Act effectively safeguards human rights.
