Sweet Winnie

We lost our precious Winnie yesterday at only 7 years old. She had been very lethargic, not eating well, and we took her to the vet (a few days ago.) We explained this to the vet in addition that she was having difficulty walking. We were first told that it could have been an issue with her teeth - because she was showing signs of tartar etc. However, the difficulty walking led me to believe that she may have contracted Lyme's disease, as I had experienced a similar issue with my shih-tzu years earlier. They did a test for Lyme's, which came back positive and as it was the weekend, we did not ..read more

How long do I leave him home alone
Yorkshire Terrier Community

Hi I seek advice on how long I can/should leave my pup home alone. I have a beautiful boy, Little Buddy, who’s now 1 year 9 months old. The longest I ever leave him home alone is 4 hours. Occasionally 5 hours max! I watch him on camera and he’s usually just fine, though looks bored if he’s not sleeping. Occasionally he’ll howl right after I leave, seemingly from loneliness ? But then he settles in. He’s in a pen/fenced area where he has his crate, water, pee pad if he needs it, his blanket, soft music, a ceiling fan, and of course toys, chew stick, and puzzles/kongs. I never ever see him pla ..read more

Deuce needs an eye removed

My beautiful boy has had some time of it. He will be 14 next week and still weights only 5.6 lbs. Three years ago he had a cataract removed and a lens implant in his right eye. Shortly after we noticed a cataract in his left eye. At the time I didn't think we should put him through yet another surgery with hopes to have his teeth addressed. I really fear anesthesia for my little man. Well now the left eye has Glaucoma with increasing pressure. Options are to remove the left eye or do a gentocin injection. The injection is appealing but may not do the job or not be long lasting which will resul ..read more

Retinal Degeneration

Hi everyone. My little girl is 13 years old, recently I noticed that her vision is deteriorating especially in the low light conditions. Took her to a specialist, the diagnosis is "diffuse retinal degeneration, progressive rental atrophy". Was told nothing could be done, only matter of time with an estimate of 1-3 years for her to completely loose her eyesight. Was told to give her Ocu-GLO to potentially slow down the process. She is very healthy otherwise, I was wondering if there is anything else I could try. I am no expert, but looking on line few things came up: Gene Therapy: Gene therap ..read more

Piper is Gone

This morning I had to put my little Piper girl to sleep. Even though she was diagnosed with stomach cancer back in June, losing her today was sudden and unexpected. We'd gone for a nice enjoyable walk, but within ten minutes of returning home, Piper got sick about four times and seemed almost to convulse. I brought her in and put her on couch next to me and she just kept opening and closing her mouth--kinda like a little fish. There was no hard breathing, no heaving or coughing. Took her to vet immediately and they immediately put her on oxygen. They told me they could run diagnostics and take ..read more

My dog's ten years old and he's always had a round hard stomach since a puppy. Does anyone know what could cause that . Of course, my mind is going all over the place. He has his physical in a couple of weeks, and I'll ask the vet. The Only health issue he has is bad allergies. I'm starting to wonder if you can get a potbelly from allergies from food ..read more

Picking Up My New Yorkie - And Feeling Extremely Neurotic
Yorkshire Terrier Community
by PrincessSassy

I don't know how or where to begin with this. My sweet little Princess Sassypants, my Nibblet, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 1st. I was absolutely heartbroken (still am!). I didn't think I would get another Yorkie, but the house was so empty that I kind of/sort of started looking and found a breeder. I get to pick up my new yorkie this coming weekend. I feel confident about the breeder (KNOCK WOOD!); she has good references, answers all my questions, and has been very responsive. So here's the neurotic part. I still blame myself for my sweet little girl crossing the Rainbow Bridge (She di ..read more
