Elevated liver enzymes

Hi there, good afternoon. New member, thank you for having me. I have a 9 year old male Cairn called Teddy (he just turned 9 two months ago). He is a happy and healthy boy, but I took him to the vet last week for annual bloodwork and the results came back with mildly elevated ALP and ALT enzyme levels. The vet said that he would like to check the enzyme levels again in 6-8 weeks and then maybe do a liver ultrasound if they hadn’t returned to normal. Needless to say, I am a little shocked and very worried. We have had no health problems at all with Teddy so this has come out of the blue. Has an ..read more

These were just a year or so before fonzie went from 5 yr old puppy to a "senior cairn". Good news is the librela side effects are wearing off and he's getting control in his back legs now! I don't think he'll ever be as hip as he was when he was younger, but having full function of his legs are much better than none!    Here's some of my fav videos             ..read more

@bradl I don't have access to my email on this account anymore, so thank goodness I remembered my password haha.   So glad to see some of you guys still here. I definitely remember some usernames and cairns! I need to keep looking!   Anyways, just wanted to come here and post an update about Fonzie and where I've been. After my grandma passed in 2017, I  stopped coming here and a lot of websites to be honest. However, I want to tell you guys something that happened when my grandma was in the ICU. It's pretty personal, but want to share it here to show you all how Fonzie had ..read more

Dog vocalizations

In a post about my latest brouhaha; whits mentioned how Addie greets with howls and ear chews... Oban is my 4th cairn but my first with a wide range of vocalizations. I particularly love his enthusiastic woo-hooing when I come home from being somewhere. I hear "woo-hoo, mom's home!" I have decided I need to get some videos of his vocal virtuosity. And I thought it would be fun - if you already have some - if you all would post them for us. Anyone have anything? What does your dog say?       ..read more

Sorry if this has been posted before. I just finished watching "Reap the Wild Wind," (1942 oldie) Anyway, Rommy was the cairn in this one. After some research I found out that Rommy was Toto's (Terry's) son. And this list of movies was with the article for those of you who are interested in other cairn movie stars. *Ready For Love - 1934-NA 2. *Bright Eyes--1934-A 3. *Dark Angel-1935-A 4. *Fury- 1936-A, 5. *? Double Or Nothing-1937-A 6. *#The Buccaneer-1938-NA 7. *Barefoot Boy-1938-A 8. *Stablemates-1938-NA 9. *The Women-1939-A 10. *Bad Little Angel-1939-NA 11. *Wizard Of OZ- 1939-A, 12. *The ..read more

January 1 2024 in central Alberta should be cold and covered in snow….there is none. I am actually raking up leaves with Sam supervising to make sure I do a proper job. Although it’s nice we don’t have to worry about coats and boots for the dogs when walking them every day but I have an aweful feeling I will be replacing cedars and perennials ..read more

Climbing, wanting to "get vertical"

Our 15 week old just loves to climb up on things and then sit and observe the world from his high spot. We have made a tower of boxes that he can climb up and lay down on a blanket, he's all in for that. Outside he likes to sit on top of piles of dirt and rock (new house/yard landscaping in progress). Is this typical of the breed? I seem to recall some folks saying the dog liked to sit on the back of the couch up high. I also wonder about building him some kind of dog playground/jungle Jim to climb on and sit. Anyone done this? Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks ..read more

So I was delighted to stumble across a Crufts Freestyle heel work to music, international 2023  about 2.83 minutes into the video with a Delightful wheaten Cairn called Toto .  I would post it but having difficulty doing so…so if one finds and can post the video please do. I made Sam watch it, however after a few minutes he trotted away and would not back to watch. Don’t think I will be going to Crufts anytime soon ..read more

We don’t bicker over vermin, boys.

I heard the boys bickering in the backyard, so I went to check it out. A mole, they were bickering over a mole. Albeit a big mole, but still. A drill sergeant “Down” command, had Walter dropping it as he downed. I don’t understand their relationship, I’ll worry if they have an actual fight, but this was just them yelling at each other. my glove for size comparison.     ..read more
