I heard the boys bickering in the backyard, so I went to check it out. A mole, they were bickering over a mole. Albeit a big mole, but still. A drill sergeant “Down” command, had Walter dropping it as he downed. I don’t understand their relationship, I’ll worry if they have an actual fight, but this was just them yelling at each other.
my glove for size comparison.

Toto Trot is an occasionally annual event where our local club gives back to the community. This year all proceeds go/went to the Pongo Fund which is a food bank for pets. https://www.crctc.org/tototrot
You may enjoy this brief video from Columbia River's Toto Trot this morning.

The rain held off, it was a pleasant temperature with atmospheric fog on the lake, and of course Cairns to brighten anyone's day. A kindly neighbor provided an inspiring kick-off by piping on the fishing dock for a while and then leadi ..read more

It's been a long time since I have visited you all. Lots of new members. I am still on the farm. One leg out the door as we are trying to retire. Do farmers ever retire? But I am enjoying a new home about 30 minutes away. Some time there, some time here. I never adopted another cairn after Dempsy and Elsie. Mostly yorkies have been in my life. Just last month I did bring one home from a rescue in the cities. Her name was Minnie Mouse when I applied for her. Someone else got her. .... but, to my surprise, they returned her ..read more

The boys are a year and a half old now, we’ve been in a professional ( versus a dog club) obedience classes for almost a year now. Petsmart training was a waste of time.
Today I asked one of the trainers to film Walter doing a walking stay. He’s been fairly consistent for awhile. I’ll get Amos doing a walking down nexteeek.
for your viewing pleasure, and Walter weighs 16 pounds now.

I have had the unfortunate incident, which landed me up in hospital for five days with a pinched nerve in my back. My wonderful husband has been looking after our two dogs, Sam, the cairn , and Rosie, the Scotty. Sam and I are very much bonded and when I came back from the hospital, no drug could be more helpful than having that wonderful happy face leaping up on me welcoming me home. He hasn’t left my side since, he knows that his mom isn’t 100% yet.
Don’t ever underestimate the love an animal gives you… Especially a furry hairy Cairn. I’m afraid I’ve neglected his coat, but he d ..read more

Living with a terrier , especially a Cairn terrier is a look into a dog bred for decades to hunt . Sam’s instinct to hunt and kill small vermin obviously is deeply ingrained into his breeding..no matter how domesticated these terriers are. He rarely goes into the back yard to lounge and is forever on the look out for anything that is small, furry and moves fast. So far this spring he has caught and killed three squirrels, not pleasant at my end but he seems very pleased with himself! His reflexes are lightening fast, the kill quick with a few shakes of his head. Squirrels are amaz ..read more

We mark 5 -- count 'em! -- five years with this little boy that came home with me at 13 weeks (and that was after jumping into my lap and proceeding to nip me on my nose!). His birthday is May 24th, the day after my husband's, which is pretty funny (for us). George doesn't like celebrating his, particularly, so Toto gets most all of the attention for two consecutive days, all of the treats, birthday wishes, and a special meal and present. Lest you think he's spoiled, or sum 'fin, I won't mention that the 23rd-24th is the highlight of a month of 'So, who's the Birth ..read more
