Greetings everyone,
I'm getting a little deeper into the hobby and shifting closer to fully organic. This is my first time with isopods but not my first time with earthworms.
The goal with this project is to increase the quality of the food for my plants, increase the amount of beneficial soil microbes, and to better utilize the plant waste generated in the garden.
It's all going down in a storage tote on a shelf. Substrate is fresh coco coir, rice hulls, old potting mix. Critters will be fed food scraps, Dr Earth 222, moringa leaf and pods and seeds, and cannabis waste.
I had a huge (fo ..read more

I listened to the Jeff lowenfels episodes on the podcast recently, and ordered all of his 'teaming with' books. I was just wondering what other Books people recommend for learning more about the science involved in organics? And other books regarding indoor organics? I haven't touched soil in nearly 10 years indoors.
Thanks in advance ..read more

So the wife wanted to have some chickens this year. I always remember my Grandfather using his chickens shit for fertilizer in his orchards and fields. My uncle who still runs the family’s Farm(mostly apples ? and pumpkins ?)told me the best way to use chicken poop is mix with water lots and lots of water then fert your soil with this water. I’ve been reading a bit online about chicken poop and uses and some people compost it which is kinda what im looking to do. Just wanted to see if anyone has ever used or has know of anyone who has used chicken shit to feed there plants? what method you use ..read more

Hey all!. Been figuring out the nutrient approach i want to take. Want to run this by y'all to get your thoughts.
Many years ago My wife and i planted a garden in the back yard of our new house. I found some Fox Farm organic fertilizer and it worked GREAT! Some time later i went to re-up but they didn't have the same stuff. Mainly, the ingredients werent the same. I looked this up and found Fox Farms had been bought. Subsequently, their fert recipes changed. The big difference: in the older formulation the organic components were composted, then ..read more

I have moved to organic as many of you know, and the crops always go pretty well until about four weeks into flower. They start to get hungry.
This I think is from a magnesium def, which I'll spray the plants with Epsom salt to fight that, and a PK deficiency.
These plants haven't been fed at all other than what is in the soil. But they are getting hungry now. Any organic soil growers able to recommend how I can keep the plants happy here, but only using organic ingredients. I don't want to use any salt based nuits or anything out of the bottle

So it's a simple question. I'm sure many of you are thinking, "man just get a bucket". lol
But my question is what is the best way to collect rain water?
Off the roof, through a galvanized downspout into a rock filter before it goes into a concrete cistern is what we had at our family farm since 1931. We didn't drink this water but used it for everything else.
So is collecting it off the roof the preferred method?
What about storing and filtering before use? Should I use bennies so algae doesn't grow?
If there aren't any elements or minerals in ..read more
