The Versatile Boston Terrier
Boston Terriers are a fixture on the dog show circuit. Their good looks and formal appearance have earned them the title of “The American Gentleman.” Well-bred Bostons excel in the show ring, but they are capable of much more. In fact, they are standout performers in the myriad dog sports offered by the American Kennel Club.
Bostons participate in many sports. You will find them in the Obedience ring and at Rally Trials, Agility Trials, Flyball, Fast CAT, Disc Dog, Dock Diving, Barn Hunt, and even Tracking events. A healthy, sound Boston is an athlete who ca ..read more

Interview with a Junior Handler, Audrey Boyer
Where do you live? Where do you go to school?
My name is Audrey Boyer and I live in Cupertino, California. I go to school at Monta Vista High School. It’s a beautiful two-story brick school with some amazing teachers. It has a great art program as well.
Do you have any hobbies or interests apart from purebred dogs? Do you have a job?
More than a hobby, art is my passion that I am going to be pursuing as a future career in character design and animation. As of right now, I do pet portrait and online digital art commissions to he ..read more

Interview with Dolores Ferrero, Breeder of Delphi Boston Terriers
Where do I live? How many years in dogs? How many years as a breeder?
Dolores Ferrero: I currently live in San Ramon, California. I was born into dogs… my mother’s baby shower was held in their handlers’ (soon to be my godparents’) RV. (They called them “campers” then.) I took some time away as a young adult, and came back to the sport 10 years ago in Boston Terriers—my “low maintenance Parti-Color Cocker Spaniels.” We bred our first Boston litter in 2017, and our most recent last December.

Interview with Owner Handlers: Dolores Ferrero & John Flora
Where do I live? How many years have I been an Owner Handler?
John Flora: We live in San Ramon, California (the San Francisco Bay Area), and I have been an Owner Handler for over nine years. In that time, I’ve finished 10 champions, eight from the Bred-By-Exhibitor Class, and four grand champions. Three of our girls have gone on to successful Specials careers. They all love the coursing sports, and one of our girls boasts an Agility title. They’ve done it all with me by their sides.

Boston Terrier dogs enjoy and excel in a wide range of performance activities, including Obedience, Rally, Agility, Barn Hunt, Earthdog, Flyball, Tracking, Dock Diving and Weight Pulling. There is a fallacy that Bostons cannot compete or compete at the highest levels, being a brachycephalic breed, but this is not true. Boston Terrier dogs are not only able to compete in most performance events, but compete quite successfully.
At the AKC National Obedience Championship in March, 2014, OTCH Mandy UDX3 OM5 GO VER RE MX MXJ CA DM (“Mandy”, owned/handled by Molly Copelin) took home 1st plac ..read more

In 1621, the first Thanksgiving Day meal was served at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts, and dogs in America have been begging for table scraps ever since. In the nearly four centuries that have followed, US breeders have produced a number of hearty and hungry canine originals by combining established British, European, and Asian breeds with local village dogs. Each of the nearly two dozen recognizable breeds developed on these shores has contributed to the growth of the nation in some way. Their prowess as hunter, herder, guardian, and companion is deserving of our eternal gratitude and ..read more

Boston Terrier Standard | The hands that brought the world to Helen Keller were never far from her beloved “Phiz.” Cary Grant chose to own the only canine companion that was his equal in all things dapper and debonair. And for those of you who pause whenever you hear Louis B. Armstrong render his signature ballad, “It’s a Wonderful World,” you might be amused to know that it was oft conjectured that Satchmo was crooning to “The General,” his Boston Terrier.
Comforting. Debonair. Inspirational. All this and much more comes in a delightful package known as the Boston Terrier. Known as “a big d ..read more

The beginnings of the Boston Terrier harken back to 1865 amid the turmoil the country faced with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the end of the Civil War. It was during that year that an imported dog, sent from the shores of England to the shores of Massachusetts, became one of the most historically significant progenitors of the breed. A cross between an English Bulldog and a White English Terrier or possibly bull terrier, the 32-pound import arrived in ..read more
