This is the slow time of year for Florida birds down here, so I decided that Sept. 23-26 I'll be driving up to NC to check out the area around Maggie Valley. Looking for Elk and waterfalls...maybe some stars. I've never been there, so I was interested in hearing about the past experiences of others who have been there. I'll have my personal vehicle and I've got accommodations in Maggie Valley, but I had questions about the surrounding areas ..read more

I was fortunate enough to travel quite a bit over the course of my career. Here are some shot with the D7000 & D7100.

My favorite part of our nine days of touring the Faroe Islands was coming upon a village in a beautiful setting while driving the country roads, which were often one-lane roads, or hiking a trail. So, I'll end my displays of photos from our trip with this thread.

Only a few of the villages were so small that they had no church. Unfortunately, none of the small churches were open when we came upon them.
No matter how small or poor a particular village appeared to be, all but one of the churches was very well maintained. The one exception is in Photo #4; it needs a paint job. We just returned from visiting our son who move to Seattle. Wife and I took a trip to the San Juan Islands for some hiking. Beautiful area!
1. Trail head in the San Juan Island National park. This is an easy 5 mile loop.

2. The trail starts in grasslands that lead up to Mt. Finlayson. These grasslands are home to rabbits and foxes. The rabbits were brought in to feed the lighthouse keeper. The foxes were then brought in to control the rabbits!
