I know this could technically be in the 'tackle & equipment discussions' forum but I'm gearing it specifically towards bass lure fishing, so I figure here is the best place to ask. I need something that's lightweight, fully waterproof and won't break the bank. I haven't had a dedicated wading smock before. I usually switch between my Berghaus Hydroshell jacket for when it's not raining/or light rain (tucked inside my waders) or an army issue lightweight gore-tex jacket for when it's proper... This week, my search for basszilla began at the same mark I fished last Thursday, where I hoped the bigger tides would mean bigger fish, but I didn’t really get a chance to find out. As it did last week, the session started of slowly, with very little action in daylight, but as darkness fell, the bass began to stir. 45 minutes after sunset I had the first hit of the night, at maximum range on a large Patch in Nacre, which resulted in a schoolie of 41cm ?. yesterday, after the visit to the gynecologist with my daughter-in-law, he announced that the birth would be Monday or Tuesday at the latest. So, I decided to go to the coast for the night to try to catch my first bass... as I don't stay long (4/4:30 hours maximum) I will only fish on the rising tide (which starts around 11:50 p.m.) I take the bare minimum with me and will use the VR75 spooled with the Daiwa Saltiga 27Lb 12 braid which equips my Yamaga Ballistick 102 MH. some lures in the... first outing of the year ..read more

A lot of small fish around my area with tonnes of bait off shore. I have been catching quite a few with a couple of 55's and a load of smaller ones. Been checking out a few places to try to find a decent one one of my go to places is where there has been a massive landslide and it is pretty much finished as a bassing mark there's a couple pictures I took the other day. Reel for surf fishing

Hi guys. I’m looking for recommendations for a reel for lure fishing in the surf. My beloved Shimano Sustain 3000XG got dunked good and proper last weekend, pretty much constantly over two sessions. I was having too much fun to worry about it at the time but now it’s squeeling like a pig, a very unhappy one. It’s fine, I’m going to strip it down and clean, oil and grease it this weekend. But I’m going to need an alternative that’s less vulnerable for that particular activity. The thing is... Reel for surf fishing ..read more

Back out on Tuesday night for round 6, lovely evening with stunning conditions for luring around here. Fish fish taken an hour-ish before high Caught on a Longin Pixix it was soon followed by another As high approached and with it the hope of even better fishing it was as if a switch was flipped and the conditions completely turned for the worse. We persevered for a little while and I managed to pluck out a third on... Tuesday night ..read more

Can anybody suggest some? Ideally Neoprene Fingerless gloves that are tried and tested? the cold never used to bother me but I do get really cold hands these days, I think it's potentially Raynauds. If they've been dunked a lot during a session they can take a good while to warm up/go back to a normal colour. I was surf fishing a couple of days last weekend in some wind/drizzle and I took to keeping my Sealskins lightweight gloves on for the entire session, they kept my hands warm even... A couple of mates wanted me to join them last night on HW , I declined as it was a peak big tide with all it entails ,floating weed , pushed off marks , strong current etc I went silly o clock this morning instead. Conditions were ideal as the tide ebbed to LW with a nice ripple on the surface , I had a few enquiries and eventually landed a 52cm on my favorite patch at 4.08a.m. As soon as the sun came up it all went quiet so home before 6.00 a.m. Days getting longer and less opportunities...
