Hey all, I am a college student looking to get into the sport. So far I have learned the basics of the different types of rods, reels, and different styles of fishing. I do have some experience with a bait caster, fishing for red snapper and trigger fish in the Gulf. Being in boat will not really be an option for me. I will be in Boston year round and I am looking to pick up a setup that wont break the bank (<200) while also being decent quality and being versatile. If possible I'd like to be able to fish in both the harbor and the Charles. Surf fishing looks interesting but I am worried a ..read more

My wife and I recently moved near the ocean and want to go fishing at the beach. What is the bare minimum we need? We do not want to spend that much and only want to have something to do together. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks guys! submitted by /u/NiceGuy_Strong [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Redfish in Hackberry, LA

So I’m new to the “salt life”. Everyone says hackberry is the shit for redfish. My buddy has sent me pins for hackberry where he’s smacked them, but whenever I go I have no luck. The only time I catch reds is when I’m on a boat in the intercostal where you can’t get to by shore. I’ve tried live shrimp in the canal but all I’ve caught was a tiny red not even worth keeping (8 inches). Fishing off the pier it’s too high to use a popping cork so I’m just looking for tips for bait, when to go, and rigs I guess. My rod is a single piece 7ft medium rod 1/2 to 3oz 12-25 lb on a 4000 Penn. am I ok with using 1/4 oz jigs heads that I’ll use in addition to soft baits and bucktail jigs? Or do I need to go heavier and if so how heavy ? submitted by /u/Afraid-Collar760 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Finally, I have gathered my questions over the last 4 trips to the Mediterranean sea without catching any fish. My gear: - shimano fx, 9ft, casting weight 15-40, Medium Heavy, Moderate fast action. - penn pursuit IV 4000 Now, if I'm willing to fish in may, which fish should i focus on catching? Preferably sea bream and sea bass. But idk when these guys show up. And what do i throw? I've been looking at some jig heads and soft plastics but they're extremely expensive, locally and online. Will I have to stick to shrimp and squid? . What hours of the day do i fish? I've seen people go at night a ..read more
