The ViniBuoni d’Italia guide is one of the most authoritative publications in the Italian wine scene, founded to recognize and valorize quality wines made from native grape varieties in the Bel Paese. This guide was conceived and created by Mario Busso, a luminary in the world of Italian wine, whose passion and knowledge have significantly contributed to the promotion and dissemination of wine culture in Italy. Mario Busso © ViniBuoni d’Italia Facebook Mario Busso, having noticed the lack of a guide highlighting quality wines made from native grape varieties produced in Italy, decided to under ..read more

Bonsai Dessert for International Women’s Day

This Bonsai Dessert is not really a bonsai and perhaps not even a simple dessert. I called it the sweet bonsai of women because I wanted to create something that was a tribute to all women. However, what came out of it in the end is not even a simple tribute. It’s hard to talk about simplicity when it comes to women, and maybe it’s this complexity that makes them so special. International Women’s Day: La Festa della Donna International Women’s Day was born and spread globally to celebrate the economic, political and social progress of women and to highlight the steps still to be taken to achie ..read more

Sunshine of Mimosa Flowers: Saffron and Courgette Bucatini Recipe

One of my favourite Italian traditions is the giving and receiving of mimosa flowers to women for La Festa della Donna (International Women’s Day) on 8 March.  The tradition was introduced in 1946 by Teresa Mattei, the youngest Italian politician to be elected to the Constituent Assembly, and one of the first women in Italian politics. Mattei suggesting mimosa as an alternative to violets, which were the flower traditionally gifted to women in France for International Women’s Day. Despite its delicate, fluffy appearance, mimosa is very resistant and blooms even in the harshest of conditio ..read more

In the heart of Naples, a viral sensation is born from the hands of a pizzaiolo, Ciro di Maio. Now working in Brescia, Ciro has taken his craft beyond traditional bounds, teaching the art of pizza making to inmates, and bringing to life a culinary tribute that resonates with the soul of his hometown, Frattamaggiore. This isn’t just any pizza; it’s a masterpiece at his restaurant “San Ciro” that cradles the famed Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP from Mondragone in its palm, a symbol, as Di Maio puts it, “of the world itself.” Courtesy Photos: San CiroMaradona and the 1986 Mexico World Cup This ..read more

This is a recipe from my ongoing “Eating Italy” series on my Instagram (@buonappetitotutti), where I am making one dish from each of the twenty Italian regions. My aim is to showcase the unique cuisine from each region, which is one of the things I find fascinating about Italian cuisine – each region has its own flavours and traditions, but what ties the dishes of each region together is the use of seasonal and local ingredients. For the region of Lombardia, I made osso buco alla milanese – veal shanks with saffron risotto. The rich, meaty sauce and the fragrant, golden hued saffron risotto co ..read more

A Tiramisu Balloon for Valentine’s Day

A Recipe and Art Exhibition Dedicated to “Amore” The balloon might seem like an ephemeral and fleeting object, but it is only on the surface. Its role is far more important. Call it a timeless icon and an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Even the balloon in this Tiramisu Balloon is not what it seems. In it hides the most famous of desserts: tiramisu. The dessert defined as love, perhaps because of that bizarre story that was born in a closed house in Treviso. It served as a tonic for exhausted customers. Or simply because just tasting it guaranteed a good mood. It calls to mind the family ..read more
