Saw this going past the end of the pier. Guess what it is.

How to locate spots of localized fish on pier?

Hi All, So I'm recently new to fishing. About a month or two into it right now. I keep hearing in Youtube videos about pier fishing that "90% of fish are in 10% of the water". I totally get the sentiment that schools of fish or groups of fish would be local to one spot of the pier, such as where the best feeding is or what not. But just curious when you're on the pier, is there a way to find that spot? I'm fishing from southern california piers (santa barbara area) if that helps. thanks! [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Wire leaders vs stronger flouro

Hey guys and gals. Was fishing off a pier and hooked a hammerhead shark. I was not prepared for that. I had 40lb braid with a 15lb mono leader. Needles to say, the shark bit right through that and I was unable to land it. So my question is should I go with a steel leader next time or just maybe a 50-80 lb fluoro leader? Any advice is appreciated. submitted by /u/123dantheman123 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
