I recently acquired an 'older' Scott 905/4 that has a cork and ring grip/reel seat. It is in an aluminum tube with Block Letter SCOTT logo vice the Script logo. Trying to figure out when this was made.
The Winston was in a Winstom Aluminum tube and the end cap has a G90-5/4 sticker, but I don't think it's the correct cap because this is a 2 piece rod and the threads on the cap don't quite match. . The on;y markings on the rod are 8 1/2' #4 2 1/8 ox 259cm 60g and a serial # 7634. It also has...

Hello everyone I’ve recently come across some older Shakespeare rod blanks they are 8 ft 6/7 weights. All they say on them are Shakespeare Graphite with model number 12-9439B Made in USA. I can’t find anything about them anywhere but so was wondering if anyone here knew anything about them so I can decide if I made a good purchase or not. Thanks ..read more

Of limited interest, I know, but I thought I would post some photos of the ferrule joints on my earliest rods.
Why? Well, I have a few reasons but I guess that the best is that they can be helpful, sometimes definitive, in identifying the maker of an old, unmarked custom blank. To name three, they've led me to a Partridge/T&T, a Winston and two Rodons, each for very little money because nobody knew what they really were.
Another reason is simply to discuss the history of the ferrule's...

Got this massive brass (assuming Salmon?) reel this year as a Christmas gift.
I was told it is Hardy made from 1890, but really have no knowledge of reels pre-1930ish.
This thing is well past vintage at this point, but I figured it would be cool to share, and maybe get some more info on!
The reel has “T.P. Luscombe & Co” stamped on it, also “anti-foul” and “Allahabad”, but there are no other marks anywhere ..read more

Hi, Folks. Those of you who know me will be familiar with my interest in old graphite fly rods. Over the past few years I've been slowly building a collection focusing mainly on pre-1985 rods in the 8' 6" - 9', #5/6 range most suited to my trout fishing and, essentially, within my moderate budget. To date I have examples from Fenwick, T&T and Partridge/T&T, Loomis Composites and G. Loomis as well as Loomis Composite Industries, Winston 'Silver Trophy', Ted Simroe/Rodon boron/carbon...
