My application is for being able to carry good gear on my Adventure Scooter easily. I purchased a Honda off road scooter a couple of years ago that will get me into some pretty good out of the way places that can offer some decent fishing and some hunting. I have been assembling some gear that will stow in the scooter's roomy storage compartment under the seat and in the top box. The first was getting a small lightweight trail revolver and that was accomplished with a Charter Arms Pathfinder. For a long gun I went with a Savage 42 22lr / 410 Takedown over and under, it breaks in half and fits ..read more

Noticed a little bit of white chalky haze starting to develop in places on my rubber coated binoculars, read somewhere about using Armor All to rid that stuff away. Have some Armor All wipes laying around for use in my car so I gave the binos a wipe down with one and bingo, haze gone and better than new, rejuvenated the rubber coating perfectly. Al   ..read more

While the Doe I took this year was nothing to brag about she provided useful input on some new equipment.  Got to use my new Howa Superlite Rifle Made a kill with factory ammo "Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr EDL" for the first time in many years and the first for me with the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. The new Deer hoist worked like a charm Used an outdoor Edge replaceable blade knife for the first time on the skinning and it worked great Last but not least is the new LEM Mighty Bite meat grinder, picked it up last year on sale and it works very well replacing the Kitchen Aid that was good b ..read more

Outdoor Edge Replaceable Blade Knives

So I had a chance to use one of those Outdoor Edge replaceable hunting knifes that Amazon will not ship to NY State. These knives follow the same scheme as the old transition from straight razors to safety razors, instead of sharpening when dull, you just toss the old blade and put in new.  The blades for these knives are very sharp and hold their edge well, but here is the thing. After doing some skinning work and meat cutting I put the blade to one of my good stones and had it razor sharp again in a jiffy. In my opinion it would be stupid or just plain lazy to throw away the blade and n ..read more

Now I'm not one for hunting out of tents, as I don't like the limited sight they offer. I'm also one for natural cover. This structure, however, works well when natural cover isn't available. Mirror image reflex's whatever is in front. Deer walk right by it.   ..read more

Something I am always watching out for on my outdoors equipment especially knives and firearms. Have been using a product called CorrosionX that has given my stuff outstanding protection. I used Frog Lube paste for years and that is pretty good, but I like this product better. I have some Carbon steel knives that the blades will rust in a heartbeat, been using this CorrosionX and it has worked like a charm. Also have a couple of bead blasted finishes on firearms that like to hold moisture, this CorrsionX bonds well to those types of finishes. I put a lot of dough into my equipment and this pro ..read more

Shooting Sticks

Watching the videos of those African Sun Safari hunts one of the things that stick out is that always without exception the use of some sort of shooting sticks to rest the firearm when taking the shot, there were a few shots taken using an attached bipod laying on the ground. I have a couple of trigger shooting sticks that I use on occasion, one is a mono pod that doubles as a walking stick, I use it mainly when hunting with a handgun, it helps a lot with my old geezer shakes LOL. The other is a tripod I use when calling varmints, it is a short model and I set it up when making a stand to call ..read more

A lot of years not taking care of my hearing has resulted in a pretty severe hearing loss, these days I try the best I can to preserve what hearing I have left. Been using Honeywell Howard Leight Sport Impacts for the past several years, they are the type that amplifies sound to improve my hearing tremendously but also have a circuit that will shut down the blast of a firearm. I use them all the time and I have nothing but positives for them they work great for hunting and target shooting. The only negative is when using a long gun, when I shoulder the gun the top of the stock comb hits the bo ..read more
