Got me a used excellent condition Ruger Single Six chambered in 17HMR. Found it in the used gun library at Cabelas and it was the only one at all their stores nationwide. I have been trying to do my own research but I thought who better to ask than you fine folks. I am waiting for my new ATACR 1-8 to arrive so I am definitely wanting to go with a clip on. I will be hunting hardwood timber land and possibly some freshly clear-cut pine areas. Ranges will typically be less than 200 yards. As a newbie predator hunter I've got a lot of equipment decisions to make. I will be hunting old growth hardwood timber land with long shots in the 100 to 200 yd range. I really like the Inherent stability a tripod provides but before I spend 500 to a grand on one I want to be certain it's appropriate for my application. I have recently become interested in predator hunting. After meeting with local hunters, I found out they mostly hunt coyote at short range (about 50 yds), and in the dark using a spotlight. These hunters use scopes with 50 mm objectives, set at a magnification of 3x or lower. The rationale is that the image needs to be as bright as possible, with a huge FOV.
