Linebreaker

My son and I fished a dock and were broken off 5 times. Once on a piling, 4 X broken leader fighting the fish in front of the dock. 20lb braid and leader. Neighbor hit the same dock and was broken off 3x. A local legend was born. Went back today with heavy rod and reel. 40lb braid, 30lb leader (heaviest I have). But I got her. She wasn’t wearing any hardware so maybe there’s another big’un under there. Added stress of a hungry audience that went nuts when I hooked the fish. Flat out begged for the red. 7 posts - 4 participants Read full topic ..read more

LiveScope Performance in salt

Here are the few things to share about my first experience using LiveScope on my trip this weekend: It did not make a difference in catching reds or flounder. I had to hunt them down by casting along the bank. For my setup, when in down or forward scan mode the transducer acted like a rudder in strong current. The boat would veer toward the direct the transducer was point causing the TM to fight against itself when in Spot Lock mode. Perspective mode seemed to be the most beneficial at low tide to point out reds. But they were on the move so understanding the location to cast to relative to t ..read more

Which artificials are working?

Artificial bite has shut down for me in the last 2 weeks. Have used paddle tail, jerk shad, trout trick, Ned shrimpZ, topwater and suspended. Different colors. Couple trout bites on PT’s. Fished same areas with live MM’s and very productive, sizable reds. I know live outperforms fake but this? I kayak fish a creek, know where the fish are and spook them with my lures. First pic is from MM under a cork, kayak. Second is MM, c-rig, off my boat. 7 posts - 6 participants Read full topic ..read more

Short trip today with great results! MJ has been asking to go fishing for a month. Last time we tried, the battery was dead. We got on the water about an hour before low tide. Caught a handful of bigger mullet for cutbait. After an hour of striking out, we moved up river and landed a couple of monsters. MJ reeled them both in. I had to hold the rod for the cat. That thing was heavy! Wish I had a way to weight it. All smiles from the boy and the dog today. Dad was smiling too 6 posts - 6 participants Read full topic ..read more

So it’s my first time out this year. I know I know… I’ve been wanting to try @JumpNCobia finger mullet molds he sent me a month or so ago. We knew we were only going to fish an hour so like an idiot I only brought one of each color. We caught two flounder on the darker brown in like 5 minutes. the second one knocked the plastic off and we couldn’t get a hit on the other two colors today. One was for dinner along with some Spanish Mackerel a friend of mine caught at the Folly pier today. Yo JumpN, you got a solid mold there man. I never catch anything on plastics. I’ll keep using them until the ..read more

Edisto Banks 4/9 Quick Report

Fished Edisto Banks yesterday after a late start, got there just before noon. Good amount of boats there. We got two decent mahi and a pretty good blackfin and several bonito. Tons of plastic mixed in with the grass, the blackfin we got had some in it’s mouth, not sure if it was eaten before or if it had caught on the cedar plug and it ate that. Glassy but bumpy ride out and an easy ride in. Fought a fish for about 30 minutes thinking it was something great only to pull up a big bonito that was belly hooked. 2 posts - 2 participants Read full topic ..read more
