My annual two weeks fishing in Ireland has finished, home tomorrow.
The fishing has been hard this year especially the first week, bright sunshine with a strong northerly wind, not much caught, a couple of dogfish and a three bearded rockling.
This week has been better, not up to normal but okay. I've lost count of how many dogfish I have caught, but dogfish are better than a blank. I've also had about a dozen bull huss and lost a decent ray when the hook straightened, size 4 intended for...

Hello all, my little dory loves to take on spray particularly onto the rods and reels in the holder at the back. I’ve got a sustain and stradic I’ve been using occasionally and worrying over and would like something I don’t have to wince about every time we get a splash.
the spheros swa looks nice but doesn’t seem to be on sale anywhere. There’s a slammer iv perhaps as a rival or no idea what daiwa offers in similar 3500/4000 sizing other than reading Alan hawks bg mq review which was not...

Hi all, over the summer months me and the family will frequently visit the coast. We usually end up at Bawdsey as the kids enjoy a spot of crabbing, so thats where I fish, but I wondered whether East Lane and Shingle Street fish the same. I realise its all the same coast and probably the same sea floor so expect the answer will be 'mostly the same", but wanted to ask, just in case there was a difference between venues ..read more

Conditions other than the rain were pretty ideal last night, tide wasn’t great but it was the only opportunity I had to get out. Quiet for the first 2hrs until about 20min before low when my lure was suddenly stopped in it tracks and a nice Bass of 59cm took a fancy to it ?
The very next cast produced a second and much smaller fish.
Before a third just as the tide was flooding.

Hi Everyone,
I've been practicing my casting recently. Only an overhead thump as it's for carp fishing. So often not enough room for an OTG and tbh just too dangerous.
With my modified (16 year old) 6500 Abu chrome rocket (brake blocks removed, levelwind removed, better bearings and rocket fule reel lube) I've only managed 100 metres. That's with a 4oz lead and 12 foot rod.
For now I've just inserted a magnet beside the spool. Spool spins by hand for about 5ish seconds. It will easily spin...

Last night saw me at a mark that I can only fish on the smallest tides . If I am lucky I can fish it for an hour and a half before the current becomes too strong but it can throw up a good fish if I get the timing right from studying the tide tables. Started , in the rain , and had a few casts with the HH155 and patch 125 , no joy . Decided on another lure that is on my A list , the Axia Vulcan Candy , Vulture copy but better in my opinion. First cast , bang , fish on , a nice 64cm on the...

Would love to hear of others experiences of this rod. Just had another successful raid in Wales to pick up a rather nice example. Outstanding custom build to boot by the late, great Phil Hyde.
Just sent for new tip tape, shrink tube, reel seat and fuji butt cap to make it to my taste and looking forward to giving her a whirl. Feels lovely in the hand, terrific sensitivity in the...

Hi All,
We had a week at Ellary Estate cottages, 20th April. The weather was great, a chilly NW and NE wind but dry and sunny.
We fished the rocks at Ellary, saw small sea trout jumping but none caught, not even a bite. A seal. A pair of gannets working most days, in the middle of the loch. A very big bird of some sort, maybe a sea eagle? A few red deer. After the first couple of days it became clear we were not getting a fish at Ellary, so we travelled to Tarbert and fished the East pier...
