Saw on the news that some of the silt/mud in the Dee estuary has the same PH value as Bleach. Apparentley for over 100yrs the waste dumps along the Dee have been leeching in contaminents. Of course,at the time no one realised it would happen. A shovel of mud/sand/silt was revealed to show grey sand underneath it that was highly contaminated. What wasn't mentioned was that the dredgings from the Mersey have been dumped in the Dee estuary for years.Hence the sandbanks. The Mersey was proven ..read more

Yes ... same place as yesterday. According to wikipedia, Tal in Welsh means End and acrau is acres. Fished one down and one up this morning. It was cold and windy. Felt like winter. I did catch two fish. No great surprises with what they were with the wintry conditions. Two peckers .... I also caught a bigger starfish which may have weighed more than the fish did Anyway, blanking streak over. Still one more low tide to go this evening ..read more

Hi All Went out local yesterday from work. Low was at 6:30pm so fished 2 hrs down and 3 hrs up nice bit of a surf on and looked ideal. First hour was quiet then the plaice came on the feed, ended up with 7 plaice, 1 dab and last cast a schoolie bass only about a pound and a half but a first one of the year for me and went home chuffed and wind burnt. Lovely evening to be out and about 10 rods about which was nice to see. All fish returned some plaice were decent size and the dab was plump ..read more

Short session this morning. One startfish for my efforts. Back out later. There used to be a big colliery here. Closed down 30 years ago. Seams ran under the sea. Some of the site is now used for a gas terminal. https://www.nmrs.org.uk/mines-map/coal-mining-in-the-british-isles/denbighshire/point-of-ayr-colliery/ https://historypoints.org/index.php?page=site-of-point-of-ayr-colliery-talacre http://www.penmorfa.com/Archive/ten.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_of_Ayr_Gas_Terminal ..read more

Couple of hours at Greenfield Dock over high today, followed by a couple of hours at Talacre for low. Squid, prawns and some fresh lug. No bites. One other angler at Talacre who also had no bites. Greenfield Dock has some interesting history. Used to be involved in the triangular slave trade. Some info here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjwY3aZVoVE&ab_channel=DrErinLloydJones ..read more

Seems like the mackerel are in.
Watched two lads last night on utube fishing at Molfre,
they were pulling them out every chuck.
A bit early maybe, but they usually mark the start of the summer season ..read more

Not tried this one myself before. Looks a useful knot when fishing with larger baits such as whole prawn or squid. Avoids the need for bait elastic as you use the loop to hold the bait instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNcNZpyyHF8&ab_channel=Fishthatwontquit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgSo6ZbwBRs&ab_channel=MubarakFishingarts ..read more

I have de- elastictated the top section of my whip.(it wasn't elesticated when I bought it) Usually, the length of line is about a foot shorter than the whip, the reason being that you can bring the fish in at about chest height. With the elastic on it's fine for tiddlers, but anything heavier and the stretch on the elastic causes the fish to be brought in too low. (out of reach) I've decided to use 8lb to 10lb green coloured line, with a hook length of about a foot of fluro carbon.I just can't ..read more
