I need help. Bad. I am a student at UNC Wilmington and have been trying immensely hard to get into some fish since moving down here. I am by no means new to surf fishing, nor fishing in general. I have been going since I was very young. But since moving down here, I have caught fewer fish than I wish to admit. A large part of this may be the fact that 75% of my time down here is during the winter. That being said, is it worth it to try and fish from december to march/april? I could not... Did not get going until 11…but decided to hit my favorite home-base creek. Spent an hour at the mouth with zero results and then decided to go up and find some warmer water. Got to a well known mud flat and began seeing lots of surface activity—and water that was 4 degrees warmer than where I had been. Mungo & I went sight fishing, it took awhile for the conditions to get right. We found a few schools of finicky shallow water Reds to play with. I fished the Z-Man Crabz, he went with the trusty Gulp Shrimp. And he out fished (as usual), always fun being on the water with Mungo. All fish released. .... ICM ..read more

Hey everyone, new to the forum but have been fishing on topsail and surrounding area for a while. I’ve never tried fishing off Lea island in the winter and was wondering if anyone has had any luck this time of year? would like to get into some reds and sharks if possible or decent sized trout.
