Living Radiantly
Encounter Church

This week, we looked at the life God calls us to live as children of God praying for His Kingdom to come. We asked the question, “What are the things God wants us to do in light of our New Life?” In Peter’s first book, Peter describes the life we should live for God and for the people we encounter. In chapter four, verses 1-11 Peter describes how to live correctly. In verses 1-6, we learn about how we should live as children of God. 1 Peter verses 1-6 are used in the devotional below. Verse 7 shows us that we should pray regularly. ‘The time is near when all things will end. So keep your minds ..read more

Obedient Relationship
Encounter Church

This week, we talked about what it means to be in a relationship with God through obedience. As we learned, two weeks ago, having a heart of clay is to be obedient. “Also, I will teach you to respect me completely. I will put a new way to think inside you. I will take out the stubborn heart like stone from your bodies. And I will give you an obedient heart of flesh. ” Ezekiel 36:26. God is the one who accomplishes our hearts of obedience. With God’s Spirit indwelling in us- Ezekiel 37:14 “I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you ..read more

The Easter Journey
Encounter Church

This week, we took a walk through the events leading up to the Resurrection. It can be easy to breeze over these stories, thinking we’ve heard them so many times. Holy Spirit can and does still speak to us as we are reading them, and it is important to understand what really happened leading up to Jesus’ death and Resurrection. What must the disciples have been thinking, feeling? What was Jesus feeling? God planned every single detail. The first stop was the Last Supper. The student’s sat around the table as they read the following scriptures: Matthew 26:17-25, Matthew 26:26-29. The student’s ..read more

God Alone

This week, we discussed what it means to have God alone. Jesus asked a question, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?” – Mark 8:36 Think about that for a moment. What is your soul worth to you? To God it is worth more than the entire world. It saddens me to think how little we think our worth is, “My life is not worth that much.” Yet, God says that it is worth more than the whole world. You are worth so much more than all the money, all the gold and other precious metals, all the homes, land, cars, and all the things you can imagine combined. All the va ..read more

Clay in His Hands
Encounter Church

This week, we talked about what it means to be clay in the potter’s hand. “But Lord, you are our father. We are like clay, and you are the potter. Your hands made us all.” Isaiah 64:8. Isaiah chapters 63 and 64 speak of remembering what the Lord has done, the ways He has previously saved us, to encourage us in praying for what is in front of us right now. We look to Him and remember His loyal love for His children and His Kindness. When we recognize our sin, we realize that our sin hardens our hearts and leads us in a different direction than where God wants to take us. This shows us that we n ..read more

Following Our Healer
Encounter Church
by Sarah Heaton

As we embark on a new season of Experiencing God, I wanted to begin with Jesus our Healer. Matthew wrote about three things Jesus did in His ministry. Matthew 9:35, “Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.” Jesus taught in the synagogues on the scriptures; He gave a new understanding of ancient texts. He also preached on the kingdom of God. However, He didn’t just talk about the kingdom of God, He preached that the kingdom of God is at hand, and He ..read more
