Chippenham became accredited as a Purple Flag town in 2016 and is one of the few market towns in the UK to win this prestigious national award for the safety and vibrancy of its night-time economy. Examiner Recommends Neighbourhood Plan for Referendum

The Examination of the Neighbourhood Plan has concluded, with the Independent Examiner recommending that the Plan proceed to public referendum. The Examiner resolved that, subject to making the modifications outlined in his Report, the draft Neighbourhood Plan meets the ‘Basic Conditions’ These are the legal requirements for a neighbourhood plan. The Local Planning Authority (LPA), Wiltshire Council, have subsequently agreed with the Examiner’s recommendation in their Decision Statement of 4 March 2024. The Bandstand in John Coles Park hosts a selection of Sunday afternoon concerts that are free to attend. These popular concerts are a firm favourite in the diary and a super reason to make up a picnic and relax with some gentle toe tapping. In October Chippenham Museum began a new project working with Ukrainian families, alongside a local artist, to produce a new artwork exploring Chippenham and the surrounding area as a place of refuge. The ‘Making Spaces’ project was inspired by the museum’s autumn exhibition of work by Peter Potworowski and the conservation of the painting by Charles Wellens discussed in our previous blogs. Water refill point comes to Chippenham Local people and visitors to Chippenham can now top up with tap water for free, thanks to a new Wessex Water refill point which was opened today by The Mayor of Chippenham, Cllr Declan Baseley. The water company has installed a refill point in the High Street, and they will undertake the cleaning and maintenance and inspect regularly to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and water quality.
