The Cleveland Guardians need some run production.
So far this season they are one of the worst offenses in baseball.
That is unlike the team we saw last year that won the AL Central and their first playoff series.
But, a few of the offseason moves the Guardians have made are not working out.
One of the moves that has been a disaster is the signing of catcher Mike Zunino.
The Guardians were hoping that Zunino could bring some much-needed pop to their lineup.
Instead, he has been borderline unplayable this year.
Thankfully, Zunino showed up for the Gua ..read more

Mike Zunino is slashing .178/.282/.356 with three homers and 78 wRC+ in 103 plate appearances for the Cleveland Guardians.
A league-average wRC+ is 100, so Zunino is producing 22 percent less than the league-average hitter.
Fellow catcher Cam Gallagher is at .100/.151/.120 with a -28 wRC+ in 53 trips to the plate.
It’s fair to say that the catching situation has been a mess in Cleveland in the early going.
The organization’s top executive recognized the problem and spoke about it, according to a team insider.

At 20-23, the Cleveland Guardians haven’t been as good as they probably hoped this year considering their excellent 2022 campaign.
Fortunately for them, the division-leading Minnesota Twins haven’t been much better and are just 3.5 games ahead.
Cleveland fans, however, are mostly behind the team despite the less-than-inspiring start.
They keep supporting the team through thick and thin, especially considering the organization delivered an incredible season last year.
The pieces are there to keep competing, there are quality prospects on the way, and ..read more

The Cleveland Guardians enjoyed shortstop Francisco Lindor from 2015 to 2020.
For six years, he was the face of the franchise and even helped them go to the 2016 World Series, falling just one game short of a resounding victory.
But at one point, it became evident that the Guardians wouldn’t be paying what Lindor was asking in a long-term deal.
Those circumstances facilitated a trade with the New York Mets in early 2021.
Lindor will be facing the Guardians for the first time in his career on Friday.

The Cleveland Guardians offense is not particularly imposing or productive, but that is by no means Steven Kwan’s fault.
He showed last year that he can be an offensive asset even with limited power, and after a somewhat shaky start, he is starting to pick up the pace this year.
The Guardians leadoff hitter is a fantastic table-setter, among the best in the American League, and there are few batters with the ability to get things going at the start of games than him.

The Cleveland Guardians are not having the season they hoped for at the plate.
Their bats have been abysmal as they rank second-to-last in MLB in runs scored with 147.
You could point at many different players who need to step up and play better.
But one position group has been the worst.
The Guardians have gotten nothing from their catchers since the middle of April.
Their catching duo features Mike Zunino and Cam Gallagher, both of whom are struggling to hit the ball.
According to Guardians Perspective, Zunino and Gallagher have combined to go 4-78 ..read more

On Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians got a chance to say hello to a new face.
22-year-old infielder Brayan Rocchio was called up on Tuesday and made his MLB debut against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The young infielder had a night to remember, as he made his MLB debut against the South Siders and also picked up his first career hit.
With Lance Lynn pitching, Rocchio hit a soft ground ball to the left side and legged out an infield single.
He also advanced to second base after catcher Yasmani Grandal made a wild throw to first base ..read more

If you followed the Cleveland Guardians‘ 2022 season, you know that Josh Naylor is a clutch hitter.
When the game is on the line, he has a knack for appearing and playing hero.
That success has extended to the 2023 campaign and proven that the “clutch” label fits him to perfection.
Josh Naylor has been the definition of clutch.

The Cleveland Guardians have developed yet another pitching star in Tanner Bibee.
The 2021 draftee needed just 148 innings in the minor leagues between 2022 and 2023 to convince the team he was ready to star in the majors.
If there were any doubts about his control (he did gave up 4.70 walks per nine innings in 15.1 Triple-A frames this year) he is erasing them each time he gets the ball in MLB.
He was brilliant in his most recent start, which came on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Cleveland Guardians have been given a major boost from Josh Naylor of late.
Coming into the season, many thought Naylor would be able to produce plenty of power for the Guardians.
But his ability to come through in the clutch is something that no one saw coming.
According to MLB on Twitter, Naylor is the first player in the expansion era to hit three straight go-ahead home runs in the eighth inning or later.
