By: Shana Knight My name is Shana Knight and I was part of the Woman to Woman Mentoring 2018-19 cohort. Prior to starting the program, I was in an interesting period of my life as I became new mother and felt that I had a brand-new meaning to life. I wanted to be more for my daughter, and I wanted to make sure that I had a plan to excel and grow professionally. I struggled with confidence, the ability to advocate for myself and I did not understand my value and worth. As I embarked on my personal development journey, I applied for Woman to Woman Mentoring. In my initial interview with Woman to ..read more

Written by: Jenna Kahn Many times when we think of a mentoring relationship, we picture clearly defined roles: there is a mentor who is imparting their wisdom and knowledge, and there is a mentee absorbing what the mentor shares. In reality, the lines are much blurrier! A mentor and a mentee’s relationship is symbiotic at its core. Both individuals benefit from the exchange of ideas and support. While there may be specific boundaries that dictate the nature of the pairing, the ebb and flow of teaching and learning is what makes the relationship dynamic and, ultimately, most rewarding. Woman to Woman Mentoring is all about connections. Sometimes W2WM connects people, sometimes volunteers connect people to W2WM, and sometimes people happen upon W2WM. Research says that someone needs to hear information seven times before they act on it, and Ellen was no exception. In Ellen’s story, we’ll get a glance at how one interaction changed the way she lived, worked, and made connections in Frederick and how W2WM was at the center of all of it.   Ellen grew up in Montgomery County. After working with an architecture firm in the Frederick area and living in the area, Ellen dec ..read more

Keep in mind the practice that “you cannot drink from an empty cup”. This winter Woman to Woman Mentoring wants to remind you of how important it is to make self-care a priority, even when it seems time-consuming, hard, and selfish.   Taking care of yourself can look different for everyone, but we have created some top items to think about as we move into the colder sea ..read more
