I attended a workshop on 3D audio research at the Tokyo University of Arts (GEIDAI) on 7-8 March 2023. JSPS postdoc scholar Will Howie organized the workshop, and we experimented on side surround loudspeaker reproduction in ITU 4+7+0 (Dolby Atmos) for solo piano in classical music productions. The studio time with Will, Julius Johansson, Toru Kamekawa-sensei, and Atsushi Marui-sensei was a gem for me. I also presented our findings at the 13th International Hisarli Ahmet Symposium. You can find the preprint below. Conference session: https://you ..read more

I recently watched a YouTube video on mixing music with templates in Pro Tools: Mixing Masterclass: Heavy Mixing & Perfecting Your Mix Template with Marc Urselli by SonicScoop, a MixCon Master class. Marc Urselli, an NYC-based mixing engineer, has served diverse artists and genres for more than 25 years. His mixing template helps him create the project deliverables as quickly as possible with superior consistency. He had been using variations of this template for 15+ years when he started in-the-box mixing. He uses the same template for all projects: let it be 10 tracks for 4 minutes or 12 ..read more

I attended a tonmeister workshop for immersive audio at Nagoya University of Arts (NUA) on 15-16 October 2022. I finally took time during the holiday to write down the insights I gained from this inspiring event. Assoc. Prof. Kazuya Nagae (長江和哉) of the Sound Media course at NUA organized the workshop. Kazuya-sensei has done extensive research on various aspects of classical music recording. The guest lecturer was Florian B. Schmidt (Dipl.- Tonmeister, Universität der Künste Berlin). Florian has been working as a freelance sound engineer for over 20 years and is co-founder of Pegasus Musikprodu ..read more

My latest-research related project was the final project of my master’s degree. I recorded a piano and violin duo of Hungarian Dances for the practical aspect of my final project. In addition, I wrote a supplementary recording journal and examined the impact of COVID-19 on performing arts to delineate the context of the recordings. My final project was around 11,000 words with 11.5 minutes of recorded material. I successfully defended this project and presented it as a live-stream session at the 13th Asian Conference on Arts & Humanities (ACAH2022) in Tokyo, Japan. I was also the chair of ..read more
