Three Benefits of Using a Waxed Chain Instead of Chain Lube

Every cyclist I ever met has been chasing the same thing: go faster with less effort. This is why we invest in aero wheels, tight fitting jerseys, weight saving parts and ceramic bearings. I hate to say Marginal Gains since the term has been chewed up beyond the point of recognition, but hey: those marginal gains add up! While some bike purchases really help you go faster by the smallest of margins, the case I make for waxed chains is pretty clear. There is a lot of research out on the internet and they consistently point at 5 to 8 watts at steady output that a normal human being can maintain ..read more

Introducing the Gain Chain
Kogel Bearings Blog

Today Kogel introduced the newest leg to our ever growing portfolio of products: wax optimized chains to compliment your ceramic bottom brackets and oversized pulleys. If a component is providing free speed and is more durable than whatever came stock on your bike, it is a contender to become part of our lineup. Gains Made In E-Racing In the last few years Kogel has been working closely with the NeXT eSport team to optimize their drivetrains for Zwift racing. Since many of the skills we use for outdoor riding are either not there or replaced by algorithms on these platforms. For this reas ..read more

Introducing the Center Sleeve for Sram BSA-DUB Bottom Brackets
Kogel Bearings Blog

This message seems long overdue, but I am super stoked to introduce the center sleeve for Sram BSA-DUB bottom brackets. For years (can you believe the DUB standard was introduced five years ago in 2018??) Kogel has stated that our bearings are properly sealed and do not need a spindle sleeve to protect them from the elements. Today I stand by that statement.  What is relatively new is the amount of unprotected hoses and wires that run freely through the inside of a frame. It seems only a few years ago that bikes had cables for braking and shifting. These cables always  needed to be u ..read more

Hello friends, it's been a while since we unveiled the new Aero Kolossos in April, and things have been pretty quiet since then. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the progress of the design process. Dangerholm's Vision for the Aero Scott Foil Our friend Gustav, also known as Dangerholm, came up with the idea for an aero Kolossos. He shared his concept for his very first road bike build with us—a fully integrated Scott Foil with carbon six-spoke wheels designed to resemble a hypercar on two wheels. Since the entire bike was built around aerodynamics, we realized quickl ..read more

Four Reasons Why Kogel Bearings is Not for You
Kogel Bearings Blog

As we are heading towards the ten year anniversary of the company our team built from scratch, it is time to point out that Kogel is not a good fit for every cyclist. This article will touch on four reasons why our parts could be out of place on your bike. My bike cost less than $3000 Very often we talk to people asking if we have pulleys that fit on 9 speed derailleurs or customers looking for a bottom bracket for their square taper crank set. We love these questions! Even if Kogel cannot serve a cyclist today, that doesn’t mean this person can’t be a good fit for our brand tomorrow. Dur ..read more

Sometimes we welcome new athletes to the Kogel Collective and every single time I am stoked to welcome new riders to the family. Spreading the word on going faster with less energy is just so much easier with friends. Every now and then, though, these announcements feel a bit more special than the other ones. Welcoming downhill superstar Aaron Gwin, Cross Country hero Jolanda Neff or our first official world tour road team Trek Segafredo easily come to mind and feel like milestones for our business. Today’s announcement is in that category. Daniela Ryf is a long-distance triathlon legend, Redb ..read more
