A quick vacation with family which was totally impromptu, and planned in less than ten minutes. Ooty and Kodaikanal were ruled out as we didn’t want to lose time on travel.  Yelagiri was one of the obvious choices next.  I have been there quite a few times, and I am aware there’s hardly anything there for sightseeing!  Since the purpose was only to relax and spend some time with family, this seemed quite apt. I haven’t heard of this place during my previous visits. It showed up when I was searching for hotel bookings.  The place looked wonderful on their website.  Deci ..read more

It has been more than a couple of months since I wrote a blog post.  I have been posting quite a lot on my Facebook Page, but did not have the luxury of time to convert them into a blog post.  Around 50 posts from Singapore over the last 2-3 months would have been quite a content for a blog!  Anyways, today’s visit to Pumpkin Tales gave me an option to keep my blog alive, and write a slightly detailed note about my experience! After a movie at Express Avenue, we were driving back home and decided to have a vegetarian dinner either at Eating Circles or Sree Akshayam, on C P Ramas ..read more

Achayathis Restaurant, Velachery, Chennai

A recent addition to the Velachery food scene, Achayathis Restaurant is located on the Velachery Bypass Road, which is already quite happening with a lot of restaurants.  Located Opposite to Murugan Kalyana Mandapam, Achayathis is on the Second floor of a building that has a Gymnasium on the first floor and Kovai Pazhamudhir Nilayam on the Ground Floor.  It is quite prominent and hard to miss.  I’ve been to their other outlet Achayathis, Nungambakkam for their Onam Sadhya, liked their food! Parking is not the most comfortable aspect here, but you can manage to park slightly awa ..read more

Kora Karnival, the new landmark next to the Velachery MRTS station seemed to have started operations looking at the dazzling lights and a reasonable crowd around the entrance. It was quite obvious that not all of the outlets were open. Most certainly Michaung cyclone would have had a fair share in delaying the setup of various outlets. Pics are deliberately underexposed to get more detail. There was sufficient car parking space, however, we were asked to pay 200 Rupees upfront, out of which Rs. 40 was towards car parking, and Rs. 160 was redeemable for food.  Declined to pay that and ..read more

Wish you and your family a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2024! End of another year, and here’s a list of what I consider the top 10 dishes I had this year, that I would readily go back for!  As always, this is not about how pricey it is, or how the wholesome experience was.  If I liked a dish so much that I’d go back for it at the first possible opportunity, it would have found its way to this list!  However, like every year, sieving through a hundred posts on my Facebook page and website is not an easy task.  I have consciously not listed places like Erode Amman Mess ..read more

Without a doubt, one of the very nice pan-Asian restaurants in the city!  I haven’t been writing many blog posts lately, due to lack of time.  My food expeditions primarily go into my Facebook page, less time consuming and easier to post.  This outing certainly deserved a elaborate writing, hence this post. An outing with family during the holiday season is a norm, and it happened to be Nasi and Mee by chance.  We didn’t have a place in mind, decided to figure out as we drove towards T Nagar / Nungambakkam.  The name ‘Nasi and Mee’ popped up, and we all unanimously agr ..read more

More than a decade ago, Pind took Chennai food scene by storm!  They established themselves as one of the best vegetarian restaurants serving Punjabi cuisine in Chennai.  Not long after that, they started Bhatinda Xpress in Velachery, which was primarily focused to cater to the non-vegetarian audience.  Since then, I have made umpteen visits to Pind for their sit-in buffet, a la carte, and more recently tried their elaborate Special Patiala Thali with a big crowd, but somehow a visit to Bhatinda Xpress did not happen all along, after the very first time in 2014. Meanwhile they h ..read more

Dosai or Dosa, however you wish to call it, (but not with a ‘D’ please) has to be one of the top breakfast dishes when in Chennai!  I’m not even going into how many variants are possible, let’s focus on the important ones.  Pongal Vadai is my favorite though! Each one may have their favorite Dosa place, I’ll tell you mine.  In no specific order or ranking, I have mentioned 10 places in Chennai which I think you shouldn’t miss! Eating Circles, Alwarpet Right from the first time I’ve been here, I am just in love with their Crispy Benne Dosa.  Their thickness has somehow come ..read more

Pharos Hotels, better known as Aruna Hotel, on Sterling Road in Nungambakkam was all over the news when the popular Andhra restaurant Vivaha Bhojanambu opened there.  I had a decent dining experience, but definitely not something that would make me go back immediately.    When Mustard Cafe & Bar opened, a similar wave of excitement was all over social media.  Typically, ‘a popular chain opening in our city’ kind of excitement!  This place was on my to-do list since then, and finally managed to tick it off along with a dear friend. We reached around 08:30 PM, and th ..read more

A fantastic evening with a dear friend who is also an ex-colleague! There’s always so much to reminisce about our wonderful days back then, and about the good times we’ve had in Germany when both of us were onsite.  We decided to check out a new place and he suggested that we try Big Bull Lounge, in Nandanam. Most of the restobars in Chennai have a restriction or specific terms and conditions for stag entry, and this place was no different.  The entry to the Second floor had a cover charge of 2K per person, for stags.  The good thing was it was totally redeemable! With an entir ..read more
