I know… I know… the name Rayar’s brings about a lot of emotions to it’s loyalist which is almost 75% of Chennai population but to me, personally my OCD kicks in when I hear this name. That’s exactly why going to Rayar’s isn’t really on the top of my list. I like the food, without a doubt. But, totally allergic to the sambar on top of the chutney culture. The experience at Rayar’s is electric. First, it’s the thrill of getting a seat next it’s the super fast service that really makes you want to swallow your food fast and get out as soon as you can. Everyone is in so much of hurry that the ener ..read more

A quaint little cafe tucked away inside a quiet residential lane created waves in the Social Media and being a coffee lover I had to try them. But, the funny thing is I never ordered any hot coffee from them because I got distracted by their display fridge.First to reach the table was the Dark Chocolate Petite Gâteaux (₹380). It revealed pretty layers when it was cut into half. The orange jelly layer did give an added irresistible taste. The Korean Cream Bun (₹180) was loaded with Garlic. The cream cheese center was delectable. The Praline Choux (₹250) was brilliant. The Chicken Ghee Roa ..read more

I’m not very familiar with Virugambakkam. So, while we were hunting for a lunch place around this area I remembered a name that I’d mentally blocked a while back. But, it seems I actually confused the two names and ended up standing outside this place. At the first glance, it didn’t look very promising. But, my hunger pangs convinced me to enter this place.Thinking back now, I don’t think it was a bad decision, actually. We had a satisfying experience and the food was satisfying. It wasn’t bad at all. In fact, I’m still drooling over the thought of their Chicken 65 (₹180). The short grained N ..read more

I hate it when my pictures can’t really bring out the real flavours and show it to my audience. Don’t go by my average pictures of food from “Seeking Roots”. The food was extraordinary.Chef Sania Naqvi, the brain behind “Seeking Roots” has very clear ideologies and totally believes in giving “Palate Pleasing” meals with minimal or nil wastage and using fresh ingredients. After tasting her food, all I can say is – Her food looks simple but it is meticulously curated and heavily loaded with goodness and absolutely lip-smacking. My experience was extremely satisfying.Over this weekend, her menu ..read more

Nothing will ever give me immense pleasure as a food critic/writer than introducing a very promising Chef and his/her creations to you all. The bloggers table that I was a part of was possibly one of the best that I’ve attended. Of course, I don’t attend too many because I don’t believe in bloggers table. I believe in a Chef’s table where the Chef and their creations take center stage. Fresh ideas and execution of those ideas on a plate, is not as easy as it sounds. Chef Adhira carried the whole 8 Course on her (young) shoulders with so much ease and a bright smile on her face. The Pop-up has ..read more

Crossing this side of the town often for my normal chores and I couldn’t but notice the bright big signage of this place. And, this place had me at the mention of “Madurai” in it’s brand name. Mentally, bookmarked a few months back and so I had to jump into any immediate opportunity to try them out. Decent ambience and attentive service. A few non-availabilty items on the menu is totally understandable these days after the Pandemic scenario when eateries have to cut short on a few things to keep the food cost within practical limits. But, luckily the item that I eyed upon was available. It’s ..read more

Came to know about this place through a very close friend during lockdown and since then, everytime I cross ECR I’ve been trying to go to this place. But, either they were closed or I wasn’t able to go when they were open due to clash of timing when I cross Kalpakkam in ECR. It’s a simple eatery with food cooked by a family from their kitchen and served to customers. As of now, when I write this, they are open for Breakfast only. They’ve not resumed Lunch and Dinner after this lockdown, yet. They are open by 7 AM in the morning. It’s recommended that you call ahead and book your Mutton Chops ..read more

It was at an odd time that we reached Chidambaram. It wasn’t a time when Breakfast was being served nor had the Lunch service started in the other restaurants. We went around hunting for food at new places that I’d bookmarked to try. But, none were ready to serve, yet. So, knocked the doors of our usual pit stop, and they immediately obliged. They accommodated us immediately after finishing their Pooja rituals. All the more reason for my Moorthy Cafe love to grow more.We were starving and the waiter suggested we start the meal right away with their Parottas (₹13/pc) till the Double Parotta ..read more

I would always love to dine-in at someone’s home and experience their home cooked food. So, the concept of Chez Pushpa is something that fascinated me since the time a friend shared @digantachakraborty’s story about Chez Pushpa. Been trying to visit them for almost a year. I was not going to leave an opportunity to taste Pondy cuisine directly from someone’s kitchen at any cost.Anita, who represents her mother Pushpa’s home kitchen was patient enough to reply to me every time I messaged. I didn’t interfere with menu deciding except that I told them that I don’t prefer Pork. I wanted to get su ..read more

A place that I heard from a friend of mine who used to work around here some 2-3 years ago and I’ve been wanting to go since then. As soon as I entered the premise I saw a man frying fish on a wood fired tawa. It turns out that he was the owner. He doubled up for serving the food and came across as a strict person when it comes to food. He gave clear instructions to finish things in your banana leaf. There was no menu, but we were asked what gravy we need along with the rice. We just went with the flow and copied what other tables were ordering. A Poriyal (snake gourd on the day I went), Thuva ..read more
