A. How will the company keep me safe from COVID-19?
We have developed a Covid-19 Pandemic Action Plan in consultation with the State of Alaska and Beacon Health OHSS.
1) Beacon Health has extensive experience providing medical services to employers with operations in remote Alaska. https://www.beaconohss.com/services/remote-medical/
2) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): all employees are required to wear company provided face coverings in the seafood processing area. A face covering must be worn in common areas as well, but in this case you may ..read more

I’ve been an adrenaline junkie for as long as I can remember. From rappelling to roller coasters to hopping on a sled pulled by a four-wheeler, the thrill of taking a chance is intoxicating. Three years ago, when my sister told me about this remote fishery up in Alaska, I knew I had found my next adventure. Little did I know that Leader Creek had much more in store for me than free food and some hard work.
Leader Creek is a place where I’ve come to expect the unexpected. Every story I hear about it: “I never would have thought, but I found my best friend!” “I’d never have believed it, but her ..read more

My favorite memory from my first year at Leader Creek has to be when I was packing the fastest line of roe. I never did that job (I would always weigh out the roe) so I wasn’t the best at it. It was peak season and we were overwhelmed with roe. A coworker and I were so far behind we had a mountain of roe next to us reaching higher than the converter belt. We were sleep deprived and for whatever reason it was the funniest thing. Eventually we had to ask for help to catch up. That memory stands out from my first year along with many other good ones. - Tim, Human Resources Helper

May is National Mental Health awareness month and as the salmon season approaches it is a great time to start preparing for the mental challenges that come with the long days ahead. While you may be focused on the physical challenges that come with working 16 hours a day and 7 days a week, your mental health is equally important. It is challenging to work long days on little sleep during peak season, and it can be difficult to maintain a positive attitude while balancing taking care of your mental and physical health. It is important to stay vigilant and take small steps every day to c ..read more

I’m sure you’ve heard of Denali, the 2nd largest National Park in the country, but Katmai National Park - located just a short float plane ride away from Leader Creek Fisheries - should definitely be on your list of places to visit if it isn’t already. Katmai is home to over 2,000 grizzly bears and they all come out to feast during the summer sockeye salmon run. Unsurprisingly this is the same run where all of our fish come from.
Leader Creek employees who finish their contracts are given the opportunity to spend their last day at Katmai before returning home at the end of the season. We even ..read more

Have you gotten your COVID-19 booster shot yet? If not, please do! As much as we all would like it to be so, the pandemic is not over and COVID-19 is still a consideration we need to take into account when discussing the upcoming season. We were lucky enough last year to have the vaccine on our side and we ended up with a very high vaccination rate on camp (over 90%!). This year, just like last, we are prioritizing people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 over those who have not. Why are we making this decision? In short, to protect you, the community, and our season! We have emp ..read more
