NORWALK — The La Mirada softball team relied on strong pitching, quality defense and clutch hitting by junior left fielder Angelina Ratzlaff to defeat rival Gahr 2-1 at Glenn High Thursday night.
The victory, on the team’s senior night, secured back-to-back Gateway League titles for La Mirada.
“It felt amazing,” said Ratzlaff, who hit the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning after senior catcher Rebecca Eckart (Notre Dame signee) was intentionally walked.

Real estate investor Debra Falese called a landmark Realtor commission settlement “horrible” because it requires home shoppers to sign contracts with their agents.
That could leave buyers “locked into” working with unreliable agents, the Huntington Beach property owner said.
New homeowner Morgan Hedrick worries the settlement will make it harder for future buyers if their broker fees come out of pocket instead of from the sale of the home.
And one home shopper outside an open house in Downey was visibly angry, saying the settlement does nothing to help the consumer.

Cerritos College celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Student Services and Administration Building on Wednesday, Feb. 21, which will serve as a new gateway to the campus for students and the community.
The Student Services section of the new building was named after California Assemblymember Anthony Rendon, an alumnus who helped allocate state funds for the project.

A driver was killed after another motorist ran a red light and collided with his pickup truck in Norwalk over the weekend, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Before 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, a Honda CR-V heading north on Pioneer Boulevard ran a red light at Lindale Street and hit a Toyota Tacoma, sheriff’s Sgt. Gamielle Marshall said.
The Tacoma driver died at the scene. The medical examiner’s office identified him on Monday as Angel Valdez Arvizu, 64, of Norwalk.

Midway into LA Metro’s rollout of portable, self-contained bathrooms at four of its stations, the toilet units were used more than 17,000 times without any reports of illegal activity, the transit agency said on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
LA Metro has reached 100 days of service, or a little more than three months into a small-scale, six-month pilot program, providing restrooms at a few designated stations for the first time in the county transit agency’s 30-year history.

Detectives are still looking for the assailant who fatally shot one man and wounded a second man in a Norwalk parking lot earlier this month.
The two were in a car in the 10600 block of Firestone Boulevard when the shooting happened around 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 2., Sheriff’s Lt. Omar Camacho said. Investigators don’t know if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle.
Frank Perez Jr, 21, of Los Angeles died from a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the medical examiner’s office. Detectives believe he was the passenger.

NORWALK — An investigation was underway into the shooting death of a man in Norwalk.
The shooting was reported at 6:46 p.m. Saturday in the 10600 block of Firestone Boulevard, near the 605 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Sheriff’s homicide detectives were conducting a crime scene investigation.
