The deceased motorcyclist was identified as Ronnie Douglas Rowles, 29, of Anoka.
A motorcycle driver is dead after a crash in Brooklyn Park Wednesday night.
Brooklyn Park police officers were alerted of a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle on County Road 81 at Broadway Avenue around 8:50 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the motorcyclist had died, and the other driver – identified as a juvenile – was still at the scene.

A psychiatric hospital in the north metro is celebrating a 30,000-square-foot expansion with 30 new inpatient mental health beds available for children, teens and young adults.
According to PrairieCare, the new wing at its Brooklyn Park hospital will be able to serve a thousand teens and young adults every year.
“It took a lot of people and a lot of actions to make today possible,” said PrairieCare CEO Todd Archbold.
PrairieCare is based in Minnesota with nine locations across the Twin Cities metro area, Mankato and Rochester.

The driver of a bus that ran over and seriously hurt a 6-year-old in Brooklyn Park in January shouldn’t have even been behind the wheel of the bus in the first place, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Nasteho Farah Kahiye, 39, of Minneapolis, was charged Tuesday with gross misdemeanor reckless driving and misdemeanor charges of careless driving and failure of school bus driver duty.
Those charges stem from an incident on the afternoon of Jan. 25 in the 8700 block of Edinbrook Crossing North.

A high-risk search warrant was served by members of the Brooklyn Park Police Department (BPPD) SWAT team on Thursday.
Just before 5 a.m., SWAT team members searched a home on the 7500 block of Zane Avenue North at the request of BPPD officers in connection with “ongoing felony level crime.”
Officials from BPPD say four people safely left the house and were detained by officers.
A 50-year-old Brooklyn Park man was taken into custody on probable cause murder in connection with a homicide that happened on Wednesday, officials from Brooklyn Park say.

UPDATE: The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as 54-year-old Eric Darnell Holmes of Robbinsdale. According to the report, Holmes cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds which is considered a homicide.
9/6/23: Authorities are investigating a man’s death in Brooklyn Park as a homicide.
The Brooklyn Park Police Department says officers were called to a home for a welfare check in the 7200 block of 72nd Lane at 10:22 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities were called to the house after a man was found unresponsive by a relative.

The Blue Line Extension Light Rail project could go through parts of the North Loop neighborhood in Minneapolis.
It’s part of the now recommended route for the project that would extend the Blue Line from Target Field through North Minneapolis to Crystal, Robbinsdale and Brooklyn Park.

Police say one person was shot late Tuesday night in Brooklyn Park.
According to Brooklyn Park police, officers were called to the 10000 block of Zane Avenue North around 10:45 for a report of a shooting.
The caller said his friend had been shot in the leg by someone they didn’t know.
When officers, arrived, they began helping the victim, who they say appeared to have been shot in both legs.
He was then taken to an area hospital. No other details about the victim have been released as of this time.
No word on what led up to the shooting, which is still being investigated.

Police say a 9-year-old boy was seriously injured after being accidentally shot in the head by his sibling in Brooklyn Park late Monday night.
According to Brooklyn Park police, officers were called to the 7500 block of Fremont Avenue North around 10:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When police arrived, they started giving aid to the boy, who they said was conscious and alert. His injuries are considered serious but non-life-threatening.

Plymouth police announced that an arrest has been made in connection with the fatal Saturday shooting of 20-year-old Abraham Archie-Boy Barbly.
Raheim Tyrese Cooper, 19, of Brooklyn Park, is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of murder.
The man who was found dead after a shooting in Plymouth Saturday night has been identified.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says 20-year-old Abraham Archie-Boy Barbly, from Brooklyn Center, was the man killed in the shooting. His death has been ruled a homicide.

As March begins, the thought of greenery crosses many minds – and tree sales in St. Louis Park and Brooklyn Park begin.
Starting Wednesday, residents in the two cities are able to buy trees to plant on their property.
According to St. Louis Park, a limit of three trees can be bought per property. Each tree costs $35 and can be picked up from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 or from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at the city’s Municipal Service Center.
