Mat Pilates vs Reformer Pilates - which gives us more ‘connection’?

Let’s explore the difference in how we connect in Pilates on the mat vs the Pilates equipment. In all movement, connection is important because it provides sensory feedback. When we run, our feet are connected to the ground, when we do a deadlift at the gym, we are connected to the ground and our arms connect to the weights. All of this connection gives our brain input. So what about Pilates? In Pilates when we lie on the mat we have the ground supporting us but very little else, it’s just us and gravity so in the Pilates mat exercises we’re using just our body weight. I’ve recently read and listened to a few Podcasts around bone density as we age; the main take-home is that we need to be lifting and loading our muscles and bones much more than we think. So, this month I’ve filmed a new class using light weights which is also osteoporosis-friendly. On top of this, you have some of my favourite foam roller tension releasers as well as a daily morning energising class and a class to give your lower back and hips some TLC. I hope you love the classes. Lauren x Here are the new classes for our Pilates At Home members. Not a member? Join here   New classes ..read more

As we speed towards mid January, and the time when many give up on their new years’ resolutions, let’s consider a revolutionary (or perhaps evolutionary) idea - instead of rushing to achieve hard goals, take time to celebrate small wins, stay present, and be kind to yourself. The chilly, wet weather and abrupt end of festivities can leave us feeling in a post-holiday slump, a case of the notorious ‘January blues’. So how can self-kindness help us out of the slump? More than a buzzword, self-kindn ..read more
