Welcome to SUMMER! It is mid-July and the berries have been plump and sweet this year. Whether picking strawberries at our farmshare or hitting the road for a pick-your-own adventure at local spots like Full Belly Farm, we are embracing this year's bounty. And how, might you ask? With this ULTIMATE throwback...
Truth be told, photographed above is the second JEM Berry Trifle of the season.
This sort of abundance of strawberries, blueberries, and now raspberries dictates mass consumption of whipped cream.
And of course, LOTS of JEMstone shavings.

Apple picking is not just a one time event here in the Green Mountain State.
Oh, no. With the number of varieties offered,
Vermonters mark their calendars in order not to miss their favorites.
This particular cake is made with early season McIntosh apples and is a great traditional bake to inaugurate the season.

Pretty sure the title says it all. We like to think of this as a Vermont homage to summers in the South - cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway. https://video.wixstatic.com/video/1b0866_3751219b1b214ea1a60cdfa6869bb43b/1080p/mp4/file.mp4

Traditionally, March - Early April is sugaring season in Vermont.
Due to Climate Change and an uptick in unpredictable weather patterns,
maple syrup producers must be ready to harvest by the end of January.
In recent years, Vermonters have seen the season start as early as February
and last through mid-April.
This year followed a more classic weather pattern with temperatures in early March
just below 32F at night with a sunny, steady rise to between 38 - 45F during the ..read more

So good that before you can start to justify eating more
("This counts as a vegetable, right?"),
it's gone.
This amazing cake is inspired by Ina Garten's Carrot Cake with Ginger Mascarpone Frosting recipe - which is delicious and sure, give it a try. However, after a few years of not only swapping out the sugar for maple syrup but also making minor/significant adjustments here and there...well, dare we say it, our recipe tastes better than the original.
(Full disclosure - ALL respect to Ina, she is a QUEEN of the kitchen and we feel fairly confidant that she would be pleased by our contributio ..read more

These donuts are baked and not fried which makes them so simple to make. We purchased our silicone donut molds right off of Amazon and already had all of the other ingredients in our baking cabinet. What I love most about this recipe is just how strong the maple flavor is in both the glaze and the donuts. I think they taste best the next morning, warmed in the microwave for 15 seconds, and paired with a cup of coffee.
Ingredients
Maple Donuts
3/4 Cup Sugar
4 tbs Melted Butter
2 Cups Flour
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda
2 Eggs
1/3 Cup JEM Maple Syrup
1/2 Cup Milk
Maple Glaze
