The Devon Coast to Coast is a 99 mile route from Ilfracombe to Plymouth. Part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network, this way-marked trail is the perfect challenge for a weekend adventure! The Devon Coast to Coast – Logistics Having spent most of the previous year off the bike through injury, I was looking for an adventure to get me motivated to get back on the bike. Teaming up with my Mum, who is always up for a challenge, we chose to take on the Devon Coast to Coast. Promoted as a route suitable for beginners to cycle touring we were probably naive to what we were taking on! With just o ..read more

Cafall trail at CwmCarn is their newest trail heading out to some of the remote areas of the forest. This is what I thought of the trail when I had the chance to check it out this Autumn. It has been a good few years since I have had the chance (small people do seem to take up a lot of time!) to go across to Cwmcarn. Mountain biking with a young family is tricky to fit into the schedule. So when I had a baby free Saturday last weekend me and a friend took the opportunity to go and ride the new(ish) Cafall trail. I entered a random competition that popped on my Facebook feed a few weeks ago to go to a free coaching day by Specialized Bikes with Katy Curd and Helen Gaskell. I was lucky enough to be picked! Although I have ridden mountain bikes for over 10 years, I’ve never actually had any coaching before and I hardly ever ride with other women so I was really excited (and a little nervous) about the day. It was an early start – 9am meet at the FlyUp 417 Project near Gloucester. Thankfully just a short trip up the M5 for me but some ladies had travelled from as far a field as Lincoln and Cheshire! We traveled up to the west coast of Scotland and stayed just outside of Fort William for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. After enjoying a couple of days exploring the Fort William area it was Sunday – race day! We parked in Fort William had caught the shuttle bus service to the venue at the Nevis Range. Having a toddler in tow meant we went well prepared. A bag full of food and enough clothes to deal with any weather situation! We arrived at the venue at about 10:30 and decided the best plan was to head straight up on the gondola before the queues got too big. Then slowly we wou ..read more
