In the fall of 2020, Gamma Phi Beta implemented the Belonging, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion chair, or as we call it, BEDI, across all 187 chapters. It took the Black Lives Matter and #MeToo movements for members of Greek organizations to publicly and internally ask the hard questions about issues that have long been appeased. We have collectively been forced to reckon with the knowledge that Greek life is not a broken system, but was built to function exactly the way it does. Historically and traditionally the Greek community has lacked inclusivity, and has continued to perpetuate racism ..read more

Memories from this semester with Tri Delta! “Although we like to think of every event as being focused on building our sisterhood my favourite formal event was our month long scrapbooking event! Every year we get together at the beginning of April and discuss the theme, gather the photos and materials for the scrapbook, then throughout the month whenever we have off days or need a nice exam de-stresser we can meet up together in the house and work on building the scrapbook. This was the perfect break for after exams - getting together with my sisters and working on something fun and creative t ..read more

"Being a part of the UofT cheerleading team has been an amazing experience! The team has provided me with a positive and uplifting community. Our many practices have helped me stay active and build on my strength and flexibility. I have had so much fun working and bonding with my teammates and love showing support at the UofT football and basketball games." - Angela "Softball has always been a major part of my life, and joining the Varsity Blues has been one of the best parts of my university experience. It has been a great escape from the everyday stress of university for me, and has help me ..read more

"Greek life is a great place to meet new people, pursue your interests, and network for the future. At Alpha Gam, we provide many opportunities to network with alumni and community members. A great way to network within a sorority, especially within Alpha Gam, is through holding an officer position because you are able to coordinate tasks and reach out to community members, not only expanding your portfolio, but also creating lasting connections. Many of our advisors and alumni are professionals in their field who are eager to mingle and offer advice to collegiate Alpha Gams. However, networki ..read more

Balancing university and extracurriculars can be tough and stressful. Alpha Phi has a few study tips to offer for the midterm season that is closely approaching :) 1. Start studying well in advance, cramming is the worst! Cramming has been proven to increase stress levels and create an anxious environment– one that is hard to study in. It is hard to know what information you are retaining and recall what you just memorized in a short span. Lastly, sleeping improves your procedural memory, and if you are cramming the night before, chances are you're not sleeping! 2. Don’t rely on rereading book ..read more

Memories from this semester with Kappa Kappa Gamma! "Never shying from a great theme, our Philanthropy chair, Katie Ireland, took on St. Patrick’s day as Kappa’s philanthropy for Winter 2022. She lugged her huge bag filled with snacks and decorations into the house, and with the help of the other girls, transformed Kappa into a leprechaun’s dream. It’s hard to pinpoint just one memory from that night, but a recurring theme we noticed was how competitive the boys got over small games like stack cup. While my booth was trying to sell raffle tickets for Raptors jerseys and cash prizes, we had to ..read more

"One of my biggest challenges when it comes to studying is actually getting organized and starting on the work i need to do. i find myself very disorganized when i’m overwhelmed with a lot of work. recently i discovered an app called notion that helps you organize your life! you can customize it to suit your needs and preferences and it can make studying more appealing (especially if you’re a visual learner like me!) you can keep track of your deadlines, courses and even take notes and upload course content. it helps keep everything in one place making it less overwhelming to start working ..read more

Hey everyone, my names Julia and I’m from Alpha Gam! I’ve been involved with the Association of Women in Math at UofT since my first year, serving this year at the Academic Events Head. Similar to being involved in Alpha Gam, the Association’s goal is to create a community on campus for women and other gender minorities in math in hopes of making sure every student in the math and math adjacent programs feel like they truly belong. As the Academic Events Head, I’m in charge of organizing our speaker series. Being part of this organization allowed me to meet so many fantastic people – students ..read more

Hi everyone! My name is Erin, and I am the VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion here at Alpha Phi. Although Greek life if a huge part of my university experience I have also found other ways to get involved in the student community and expand my areas of interest! For example, I am currently the Undergraduate Representative for the UofT Bioethics Society. In this role, I have been able to meet other like-minded executives and members who are passionate about the world of bioethics, and I have been able to contribute to the overall education and promotion of bioethics to the student populatio ..read more

"At Kappa, we tremendously value academic achievement. We host digital study hours, assign personalized study plans for those struggling to maintain the minimum GPA requirement, as well as reward our sisters for their accomplishments in ways of gift cards (a very good incentive, if you ask me). Aside from our organized events, our chapter shares study tips amongst ourselves. There is a well known mechanism for studying known as the Pomodoro method, and our Academic Excellence committee has decided to implement it into our weekly study hours. By studying with 100% focus for 25 minutes then tak ..read more
