It’s not paying for your friends. I mean it is, but it is so much more than that. It is being a part of something so much larger than yourself and being surrounded by other women who have similar ideals who will support you and hold you accountable through life.
Coming into college, I didn’t know that many people, and I didn’t have that many true friendships that carried on from high school. I was the friend who hung around the outside of the friend group and bounced around from group to group. For some of the bigger events I was there, but for some of the more personal and intimate things I ..read more

The excitement of seeing new members run home on Bid Day is thrilling, but for many sorority women, an even more exciting moment is when you find out your Big Sister/Little Sister pairing. Your sorority “family” can be one’s biggest cheerleaders, advice givers, and sometimes even best friends for life.
Disclaimer: All Big/Little relationships will vary, and each sorority's matching process is unique in its own way. It is important to note that at the base of every one of these ideas is that a Big Sister is meant to be a mentor for her Little Sister to help guide her through the sorority exper ..read more

As our time on the summer internship team for Her Sorority Journey comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on our summer. We highlight some of our favorite moments, look closer at some of the most growth-oriented challenges, and talk you through some of the requirements of the internship so you know what to expect before you apply!
When asked about our favorite part of the internship, for Hannah and Grace that was such an easy answer. They had the opportunity to meet (virtually and in person) other Alpha Xi Deltas including Her Sorority Journey’s Executive Assistant, Emily Brown ..read more

As Eras Tour hype swept the country this summer, we watched many of our sorority members enthusiastically attend and chapter accounts share recaps from the concerts their sisters went to. But why did thousands of sorority women take to this experience with more enthusiasm than Bid Day? My theory is that Taylor Swift preaches some important, validating, and therapeutic messages that members in our community have been desperate to hear. So here are just a few of the lessons I believe Taylor Swift has taught us all about sisterhood.

“It will be the best four years of your life,” they told me when I was applying for and getting into college. “You will have the time of your life,” they told me when I signed up and went through recruitment. “It will be the busiest but most fun season of life you’ve had yet,” they said as I was preparing to run home to my new sisters. “It will be the most rewarding summer of your life,” they said as I prepared to leave and call a new place home for nine weeks. And they were right, every single time.
Why is that though? Why does the time you spend in college seem to be filled with all of thes ..read more

Almost everyone who was on TikTok in August of 2022 has seen at least one video of white, blonde, thin sorority girls that attend SEC schools dancing to a remix of Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair” and Rihanna’s “Work”, where the whole sorority is in the background with their iPhone flashlights shining and 6 girls dancing in front, with one of them doing a tumbling trick at the end of the song.
These videos are usually made during “work week”, which is the week before primary recruitment when all of the active members prepare and practice for recruitment to begin the following week. Upon their ..read more

Going through sorority recruitment is a nerve-racking, but exhilarating experience. With the glamorization of primary recruitment (often referred to as 'rush') through social media platforms, it is extremely easy to become overwhelmed with worry and questions. Is recruitment as scary as it seems? Does it matter where my outfits come from? Does it matter if I am not a legacy of any organization? No, no, and no. We will take you through some things we wish we knew before going through primary recruitment.
Don’t Be Nervous!
More easily said than done, right? We will be the first to share that the ..read more
