There is a terrific book out there called Building a Story Brand. One of the components of this book’s teaching is that we need to know what problem we are trying to solve with our respective organizations. There is a lot more in the book, and I recommend you pick it up, but for now, let’s focus on this concept—what problem are we solving with our organization’s existence?
What do you do? I want you to really think about the answer to that question deep in your heart and soul.
What does your chapter or community do?
What problem do you solve by existing?
If I am being honest, most chapter ..read more

An Open Letter to Fraternity Men
I’m not sure how to start this or even why I am feeling compelled to write to you today. Perhaps it is because I have a son. My little boy is 10, which means in about 8 years if he chooses to – he’s coming for you. It’s pretty likely he will be joining a fraternity because I am his mom. 8 years may seem far away, but the men that will advise his fraternity chapter are likely joining it right now. At Phired Up, we grow groups. We want you to attract, select, and secure the right people to move your organization forward. I should be an advocate for joining a ..read more

Earlier this Fall I attended a chapter meeting of Phi Delta Theta at the University of Chicago, which I chair the advisory board for. At one point, an officer mentioned that the chapter had initiated all but one of last semester’s Phikeia (Phi Delt’s Greek-y name for “new member”), whom I’ll call George. This officer noted that George had a personal issue that prevented him from being able to join. However – and this is the important part – the officer went on to encourage everyone to keep in touch with George, saying, “Just because he didn’t join doesn’t mean that he’s not our ..read more

Breaking news: Recruitment has been picked up for another season in 2024! Filming begins in January and we are waiting on an updated date for the premiere of Panhellenic’s viral RushTok!
Imagine if recruitment existed like seasons of a show, where we had to wait for renewal dates, for the cast to get chosen and then wait months (or years!) since the previous season premiered to watch the next one. (I am talking about you, Euphoria!)
What if recruitment was ingrained into the very essence of our lives instead? Into our daily habits and the way that we carry ourselves both on and o ..read more

As we prep for the new year, officer planning is a pivotal moment in the life of a fraternity or sorority. As outgoing leaders pass the torch to their successors, the focus turns to setting the stage for a successful and impactful term ahead.
One effective way to ensure that incoming officers hit the ground running is by implementing SMART goals. What we are going to focus on today is not the typical SMART goal you may have learned about in the past. This is a cool type of SMART goal.
Let’s explore how SMART goals can be utilized for successful officer transitions or simply pl ..read more

Yeah, I know, seems like just another weird phrase. However, if we break it down, it becomes less of an odd phrase and instead a strategy that ensures the consistent growth of your chapter!
Continuous
The Oxford language defines the word Continuous as forming an unbroken whole without interruption.
Merriam-Webster defines the word Continuous as marked by uninterrupted extension, is space, time, or sequence. In mathematics, a continuous function means there are no abrupt changes in value, known as discontinuities. As you may have noticed, a common theme with the word continuous ..read more

Growth.
Often a synonym for other words like recruitment, intake, COB.
Growth.
A word that is often associated with the way that we recruit members. The way we add more people into our organization and grow our numbers. In other words, growth is associated with the idea that People Join People.
But, People Leave People too.
Growth is also retention. We cannot grow our organizations if we cannot retain the members we ask to join us. Acknowledging that retention is a part of a healthy and successful growth strategy is the first step to ensuring that our people stay.
Now, it’s easy ..read more
