Bruins Free Agency: Who to Target at Center

The Boston Bruins are entering the offseason with $22.8m in cap space and large roster holes to fill. This playoff run put all the Bruins’ holes on full display, and GM Don Sweeney and President Cam Neely have already established areas they wish to improve. Sweeney and Neely were dead on about needing more speed and winning 50/50 puck battles.  Toronto and Florida skated circles around Boston for the majority of both series. The Bruins were beaten to loose pucks far too often and constantly struggled to clear the zone. But those aren’t the only needs that have to be addressed.r Top Six sc ..read more

Cat Scratched

The Boston Bruins Centennial Season came to an abrupt halt on Friday night. A 2-1 loss to Florida eliminated them from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in six games. Gustav Forsling scored with just over ninety seconds left in regulation, and the Bruins were cat-scraped for the second year in a row. Coming off their best performance of the series, the Bruins were brimming with optimism coming back home. Despite sloppy play reminiscent of earlier home games in these playoffs, Boston took first blood. Pavel Zacha broke loose off a backhand feed from Jake DeBrusk and beat Bobrovsky to score his first pla ..read more

New England Chasing the Wrong Kind of History
Boston Sports Nation

If you have been paying attention to the New England Revolution recently, you will no doubt be familiar with their struggles in the post-Bruce Arena era. After Arena stepped down last season, the Revs have struggled to find consistency. They ended 2023 with a 3-3-5 (W-D-L) record.  Even that sounds like a distant memory now, as the Revs have concluded their first dozen games of 2024 with a 2-1-9 (W-D-L) record. Things further came to a head after their 3-0 defeat at home this past weekend.  Caleb Porter seemed combative in his post-game press conference, snapping at reporters and ext ..read more

Tilted Ice

After their sensational first round series victory, the Boston Bruins knew they would be facing an uphill battle against Florida. Four games into the series, and they’ve faced tilted ice in more ways than one. Rolling right into Sunrise with just one day of rest after dispatching Toronto, Boston smacked the Panthers with a 5-1 haymaker to open the series. Florida had been sitting idle for a week following their series win and the Bruins took advantage with five straight goals. Florida responded in kind in Game Two, reeling off six straight goals and blasting the lid off the proverbial simmerin ..read more

Hindsight: How Preseason Quotes Have Aged Through 10 Games

The Revolution actually managed a win on the road, their first in 363 days, against the Chicago Fire on Saturday. In what was a scrappy, high-energy affair, a long-distance Tomas Chancalay screamer ended up being the difference for the Revs.  The 3-points are desperately needed for New England, who have now collected just 7 points from a possible 30 and sit dead last in the league standings. To say things haven’t gone according to plan for the Revs this season would be an understatement.  With few exceptions, New England hasn’t passed the eye test, creating few chances in the attack ..read more

The Hard Way

For the first time since 2021 the Boston Bruins have won a playoff series, and they did it the hard way.  In a series that was loaded with “history repeating itself” narratives, Boston once again thwarted Toronto’s 3-1 series comeback bid in dramatic fashion with an overtime victory in game seven. This time Patrice Bergeron, the banner captain of the night, looked on as David Pastrnak collected a loose puck and beat Ilya Samsonov to win the series. As sensational as game seven was, the series didn’t need to go this far. For the second year in a row, the Bruins could clinch the series at h ..read more

The Boston Bruins are back in familiar territory in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After taking both games three and four in Toronto, the B’s are coming home with a chance to clinch in game five for the second year in a row. Not only that, but this is the third time in four playoff meetings with Toronto that Boston has gone up 3-1. The Bruins won game three off the backs of Jeremy Swayman and Brad Marchand. Sticking to the goaltender rotation, Swayman got the game-three starts after deferring to Linus Ullmark on Monday. Toronto carried their momentum from game two, dominating the ..read more

Revolution Seek Boston Area Stadium – But What Do Fans Think?
Boston Sports Nation

The Kraft sports organization and the New England Revolution have been looking for a downtown Boston stadium since… well, forever. It’s been 10 months since the Krafts said they were “more optimistic than ever” that the #NERevs could secure a stadium site in Boston. The most that’s happened in that time is a few weightless rumors being spread on Twitter. https://t.co/S816cbhkOf — RevolutionCentral (@revolutioncntrl) September 27, 2018 That tweet—about the lack of movement on a long-promised Boston stadium—is itself about six years old. Fans have been tracking fruitless stadium rumors for nea ..read more

RECAP – Playoffs (R1, G2): Second Best
Boston Sports Nation
by Neil Simmons

The Boston Bruins first-round playoff series has been evened up at a game apiece, as Toronto skated out of TD Garden with a 3-2 win on Monday night. It was Toronto’s first win against Boston in nine meetings and its first win at TD Garden in over two years. Both teams picked up right where they left off Saturday night, combining for twenty-seven hits in the first ten minutes of play. The Bruins struck first, with Morgan Geekie cashing in on the power play off a sweet feed from Marchand. Unfortunately, the lead would be short-lived, as Max Domi would level the score just fourteen seconds later ..read more
