RECAP – Playoffs (R1, G1): Deja Blue
Boston Sports Nation

The Boston Bruins opened up their 2024 Stanley Cup Playoff campaign with authority, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 on Saturday night. It was the first playoff game in nearly five years between the Original Six rivals when Boston eliminated Toronto in Game Seven of the first round in 2019. In the sense of Deja Blue, that game also ended with a 5-1 final score. The lopsided final score was not indicative of the flow of the game. Toronto came out determined to set the tone right off the opening faceoff and forced Swayman to make some difficult saves early. Max Domi and Brad Marchand getti ..read more

A Familiar Foe

For the fifteenth time in the last seventeen NHL seasons, the Boston Bruins will be present and accounted for in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. For the third time in the past seven seasons, the Bruins will face a familiar foe in the first round. As a result of the Bruins 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators in the season finale, coupled with Florida’s 5-2 trouncing of Toronto, the Panthers stole the Atlantic Division crown by one point and locked Boston into a first round meeting with the Maple Leafs. It’ll be the fourth playoff matchup between the two franchises since 2013, and every previous one went ..read more

Revs Finally Win! But Did They Pass the Eye Test?

The Revolution won a game!  It had to happen eventually. For Caleb Porter, it couldn’t have come at a better time – seeing as he made some promises. Caleb Porter ended the interview by saying, “We’re going to get a win Saturday. I promise that.”#NERevs pic.twitter.com/kEDyipppAq — Seth (@SethMan31) April 4, 2024 A win at home against a middle-of-the-pack Charlotte team shouldn’t have been a bold claim, but New England’s form leading up to Saturday made it a silly thing to guarantee. Ahead of the matchup, Charlotte had earned 1.33 points per game, which included a 2-0 win over 2023 ..read more

Answering the Bell

Heading into the home stretch of the regular season, the Bruins’ recent performances left a lot to be desired. Their up-and-down play had raised concern amongst the fanbase and drew sharp criticism from their head coach. With a difficult slate of playoff teams and hopefuls left on the schedule, the outlook was not optimistic for Boston. However, a trio of emphatic wins in the past week has swung momentum in the complete opposite direction. Simply put, the Bruins are answering the bell. Since Montgomery bag skated the team in practice on March 25th, the B’s are 5-1 with four road victories. The ..read more

Put Up or Shut Up

The Boston Bruins clinched their eighth straight playoff berth this past Thursday night. Their 3-2 Shootout win in Washington on Saturday clinched their sixth consecutive 100-point campaign in an entire season. Given how much they lost over the offseason, these accomplishments should be celebrated by the club and fans alike. Considering how the Bruins have been playing as of late, and especially how last season ended, as far as anyone is concerned, the B’s need to put up or shut up. Coming out of the All-Star Break, the Bruins were 31-9-9 and in complete control of the Atlantic Division. Since ..read more

FOCO has unveiled a collectible that’s sure to score big – the Boston Bruins Peanuts Snoopy Bobblehead. This officially licensed piece brings together the charm of Charles M. Schulz’s beloved beagle and the spirited competition of NHL hockey, embodying the fun and passion that drive both worlds. Photo: FOCO The bobblehead’s design features Snoopy in an action pose, donning the Bruins’ home uniform, ready to hit the ice and bring home a win. Is Bad Luck to Blame For New England’s Struggles?

My time has been stretched a bit thinner so far this season, which hasn’t allowed me to write as often as I’d like.  I did want to talk about something that’s been confusing me this week, but I hope you’ll excuse that it’s less “in-depth” than usual. The question I keep coming back to this year is: Are the Revs actually all that bad?  Or have things simply not broken their way? Bad habit, but I keep thinking how close things were to going different for the #NEREvs… Benteke's 1st crosses the line by ~2"? No-PK for Esmir for being outside the PA by 1-2"? Benteke 'onside' for his 2nd b ..read more

For the first time since 2012, and conference leading 12th time overall, the Boston College Eagles have won the Hockey East Tournament.  The Eagles were the stars of the show all weekend, scoring 14 goals across their two matchups. Hobey Baker Finalist Cutter Gauthier & Co kick started the party with an 8-1 shelling of UMass on Friday. Gauthier scored two goals and set up two more, while freshmen Will Smith, Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perrault combined for four goals and eleven points. In the other semifinal, BU outlasted Maine on the back of goaltender Mathieu Caron. The Terriers won 4-1 ..read more

The Best Hockey You’re Still Not Watching

For the second time in six weeks, College Hockey takes center stage at TD Garden, and this time, there’s more at stake than a pot of beans. Boston College, Boston University, UMass, and UMaine enter as the last men standing in Hockey East. All four teams are assuredly locked for the NCAA Tournament, but the automatic bid is still up for grabs, as well as their own individual motivations. BC is coming into the Garden as the consensus #1 team in the nation. The Eagles haven’t been ranked outside the Top 5 since the very first poll of the season. After a disappointing showing in the Beanpot, they ..read more

Making Sense of the Revolution’s Jekyll and Hyde March

In my last post, I wondered if we had seen enough to make a determination about what sort of club New England would be in the 2024. Spoiler: we hadn’t. That was three weeks ago, and since then, the Revs have played 6 times across 2 competitions.  In the CONCACAF Champions Cup, New England have more than held their own, quickly advancing past CAI and CD Alajuelense, and outscored their opponents 9-1. In league play, on the other hand…  IT. HAS. NOT. GONE. WELL. The Revs have suffered defeat after defeat in MLS, falling to 0-4-0 in a lopsided fashion. New England has managed to find t ..read more
