Thanks for joining me once more for chapter 5 of my Everton series. If you missed chapter 4 please click here or if you are completely new to this series then please click here to be able to view all of the previous posts. Pre Season Going into this season, it was just over 29 years since Everton had last won a trophy, by the end of the season, which is where trophies are generally won, it would be over 30 years. This drought had gone on for far to long, we have made real improvements over the 2 seasons I have had in charge and finished last season strongly, could we take that momentum into th ..read more

Thank you for joining me for another chapter of my Everton FM23 save, if you missed the previous chapter then please catch up here. Last season our main issue had been goals, or should I say lack of goals! At the start of this season I decided to change formation so that I could push more players further up the pitch hoping this would help solve our problems. By the end of August it was already pretty clear that it wouldn’t and I’d opted to move on quickly and switched back to 4-3-3. It wasn’t a case of reverting to the previous tactic however as I’d change the roles so that our wide men were ..read more

(FM23) The challenge of improving whilst cutting costs #3

Hello again! Before we dive into chapter 3, if you missed chapter 2 then please catch up here. Last time out, we were at the end of the January transfer window, I’d just made six new signings and we sat 8th in the Premier League which was way higher than expected. Could we fight for a top 7 finish and get European football? Would we maintain pace and get a solid top half finish or would we drift away and potentially get drawn into what is fast becoming the standard end of season relegation battle for the Toffees? Well thankfully it wasn’t the latter. We had toyed with the idea of European foot ..read more

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the first post, if you missed it, just click here to catch up. Upon taking charge, as always, the first message received was from the chairman outlining the board’s vision for the future. I mentioned in the previous post that I would also be playing the role of Sporting Director, so regardless of what their vision had been I’d have been sticking with the club DNA and Recruitment Strategy, outlined in Chapter 1. This consisted of 2 sets of characteristics, the tactical set is relevant to the board culture, so I’ve listed it below as a reminder. Tactical: We wil ..read more

(FM23) ‘Everton are the worst run club in the country’ #1

These were the words of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, earlier this year, on Monday Night Football. Southend and Crawley fans, amongst others, would argue otherwise but regardless of where you rank their ownership in comparison to others, I think we can all agree that its been pretty shambolic! When you look at Everton you don’t see a well executed plan, what you see is a mess. They’ve repeatedly ripped up what’s in place, before starting all over again. Lets begin by looking at their recent list of managers, this season Frank Lampard began in the hot seat having come in and kept them in t ..read more

Welcome back! Well it’s been over a week since I finished this season and I’ve been dying to write a really nice, long, detailed post. Unfortunately my osteoarthritis in my hands have flared up and just typing is a real struggle. Because of this the post below will be a little bit more condensed, also, due to the fact we are now dominating and posts are becoming very similar and the fact I’m struggling with my hands, I am going to start doing more overview posts every four or five seasons, this will also mean less writing, which should help me out a little bit!! Anyway on to the season!! A Rec ..read more

Welcome back! Last season was another incredible campaign, we retained the Scottish Premiership title by a long way from Rangers and Celtic, who were awful. We also got the Last 16 of the Champions League but the main thing was the kids, the intakes have been sensational so far at Aberdeen and it’s been great to see them come into the team and be just as good as I hoped! There is however something bothered me, hence the title! Reasons I won’t lie, I can’t put my finger on what the issue is!!! Let’s start with the positivity, I am ABSOLUTELY LOVING THIS SAVE and even though views aren’t great o ..read more

(FM23) Can the kids help Aberdeen retain the title? – 32/33 Season

Welcome back! Last years Premiership title win seemed like a long time coming but to do it in four seasons is sensational seeing as how good Celtic are in this save. Now we have done it though it’s time to retain it and then dominate, if I want to top the Scotland Hall of Fame I have a lot to do and a long way to go! Summer Transfers My main plan this Summer was to keep the squad together, let the kids develop some more and hope they kick on to help us retain the title, so I didn’t expect much business. A few players did leave though but mainly back-ups. We let the likes of Marc Munro, Steve C ..read more

Welcome back! Last season we were so close, agonisingly we ended second behind Celtic on goal difference amassing 96 points along the way. This IS the season we overtake them I know it! As the title suggests though it’s time to blood some of those amazing intake players we’ve got over the past few seasons, I said in the last post I planned on giving two of them as much game-time as possible, let’s see how they did! The Plan As per the previous post I wanted to try and integrate both Samuel Purves (DM) and Owen MacLennan (ST) into my domestic XI, I also decided due to losing both my main Left B ..read more

(FM23) Having to replace my whole front four! Aberdeen – 2029/30 Season

Welcome back! My second season at Aberdeen is over and it’s been an interesting season. Last time out we once again grabbed 2nd spot in the League meaning qualification for the Champions League (qualifying rounds), we also won the Scottish Cup, my first major trophy in this save. Now we need to try and close that gap on Celtic. We have decent budgets to spend which is great and massively needed as I have quite a few players to replace! As the title suggest I have had to replace my whole front four!!! Let’s take a look at who has left. The Outs A mass exodus some may call it!!! Let’s discuss t ..read more
