The early 90’s are an era that we here at Club 25 are obsessed with; a watershed time in the history of football shirts, simplicity was suddenly out of vogue and replaced of all manner of complex and convoluted patterns. Although the heedy heights of those days have mostly passed – with only a few clubs opting for zany shirts nowadays – you sometimes happen upon a shirt that truly blends the boundaries between a modern kit and something you’d expect to see in 1993. Today, we have one such example all the way from Thailand, with Bangkok United and Thai manufacturer Ari serving up something incr ..read more

Football and tradition go hand-in-hand, but as the market for replica kits has proliferated over the past 30ish years, clubs have often stepped away from the shirt designs that define their visual identity to instead tempt fans with bold new ideas. But as most shirts only last a single season nowadays, experimental design are often followed up by more traditional garb. That, then, is the story of Geylang International’s 2023 jersey, which we have up for review in this article; Of course, when it comes to Geylang International, we have to note that their stripes are certainly iconic within Sin ..read more

Even when a blog no longer receives regular updates, it isn’t necessarily abandoned. After years of almost weekly posts, the Club 25 website went on what has been pretty much a twelve month-long hiatus with no further articles added and only the odd tweak to spelling and grammatical errors in legacy articles. However, over the years the blog built up a few traditions, and today – nearly a year after the last post – we’re proud to continue one of our favourites; a review of a recent Geylang International jersey. Geylang International Football Club are one of the founding members of the Singapor ..read more

‘Looking for posh players for a posh new team’, Fletton United manager Pat Tirrell exclaimed in 1921 whilst on the hunt for new additions to his side, which was based in a quaint neighbourhood of Peterborough. While this club didn’t last for very long – going bust in 1932 – the eclectic monniker of ‘the Posh’ did prove to possess a degree of longevity as it became the nickname of Peterborough United, founded in 1934 to give the city a new representative team. While their name might inspire a feeling of luxury, we’re not quite sure whether the club’s shirts do exactly the same. To find out if w ..read more

Every season in English football includes a round of fixtures held around the time of Remembrance Day that sees clubs and fans up and down the country honour fallen soldiers. Minutes of silence are observed, memorial wreaths are placed, and the ubiquitous poppy adorns the shirts of players as they take to the field in one or more games. Worn just once or twice, these so-called ‘poppy shirts’ are auctioned off in support of the Royal British Legion, fetching a pretty penny as each kit is very much a collector’s item. Today we are proud to feature another one of these tops, as worn by Northampto ..read more

It hasnt been too long since we covered a top from the Hyundai A-League, but the little teaser we put into that article – on an old Queensland Roar home shirt – warrants returning to. For one, because the early years of Australia’s top soccer league were a lovely era in terms of kits, and for two, because there’s a point to be made about unique shirts and shared templates. So, with that in mind, let us take you back to Sydney FC’s 2008/2009 season; Sky blue, it has been a while – or not if you think our recent Huddersfield shirt qualifies – since you’ve featured on this site. Although the mighty Liverpool have had some world-famous kit suppliers – Nike, adidas, Umbro – the Reds spent three seasons in the not so distant past wearing garb made by a brand called Warrior Sports. A subsidiary of the much larger New Balance who would eventually take over kit design duties at Anfield, Warrior and its shirts were met with apprehension by the club’s fans initially, and derision once some of their more, ahum, eclectic designs were revealed. But were the shirts themselves really that bad? We’re going to take a closer look at the final home top made by Warrior, from 2014/2015 ..read more

Last week we mulled over the new Norwich City home shirt by Joma; not the absolute the best the club has ever worn, but an encouraging start to the new partnership between the Canaries and their Spanish apparel providers. However, where there are highs there will inevitably lows, and where there is a home shirt one can expect alternative kits to be provided for colour clashes on the road. But a third shirt in a shocking salmon pink tone? Well, no one quite expected that but let’s take a closer look and see if we should be happy with it; We might have called it salmon pink in the intro, but No ..read more
