Well, okay, to be honest, some of these ambitions were rattling around in my head early on in my homeschool journey. But then I had the privilege of hearing Tedd Tripp speak at a conference. I was intrigued by this man’s love for Jesus. He spoke about wanting his kids to be dazzled by the Lord Jesus. There are so many things in this world to tempt and attract our children. How many of our children are smitten with God? How many of the young people around us are lured, seduced, and ensnared by the bright lights and tempting glitter of “Vanity Fair?” Admittedly, the world does have something to ..read more

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ When we agree to take on the responsibility of parenting and home educating children who are extra special, God will bless our efforts as we seek to trust Him now and for the rest of their lives. It is often an arduous and difficult task, yet caring for the least of these is a most honorable calling. The season of their childhood will pass, and at some point they will likely live to become adults. If your child is significantly delayed cognitively or physically, you w ..read more

It seems we are caught in a place, much like the Emperor, where we are afraid to speak the truth for fear of being called a fool. There is a movement gaining momentum sweeping across our culture gobbling up our children, especially our girls. It claims that girls can be boys, boys can be girls, or more radically, girls and boys can be sexless. Speaking the truth makes you a fool, or worse, in the eyes of the gatekeepers of our current culture. Much like the people in the story, many who know the truth stay silent in the face of the greatest evil to plague our children today. It’s time to say ..read more

In the legislature there are many policy ideas wrapped in compassion that, in reality, only grow and empower a hard-hearted government apparatus and limit the liberties of the people. Last week, the Empowerment Scholarship Act (ESA) bill ( ) was heard in the Senate Education Committee. It was presented as a way to help families with children who have special needs get out of the failing public school system. Despite our clear message over the years to leave the homeschool law out of legislation attached to funding, we found ourselves having to defend our position once again. During the co ..read more

Well, the following are my suggestions, based on my experience of raising a number of unique children who encompassed the whole spectrum from special needs to highly gifted: It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres ..read more

I had an idea of how I wanted our learning space to be. There was a part of me that felt like I needed to have an aesthetically pleasing space. A space that met every need, with all the best supplies and all the best books about all the subjects that I felt obligated to teach. I was prepared to spend hours a day teaching my 4 year old. I was stressing myself out trying to create an ideal learning space for her, so that I felt worthy of educating her. “When am I going to find the time to teach?” “How are my kids going to respond to me as their teacher ..read more

Did you know that the Homeschool Law is actually an exemption to the Compulsory Attendance Law which mandates all children attend public school? The homeschool law acknowledges that parents can lawfully provide for their children’s education free from government oversight. Over the last several years there have been efforts to expand government-funded homeschool programs, by either creating new programs or gobbling up private programs. These programs have brought much unwanted attention to the homeschool law. During the Colorado Board of Education (BOE) last week (February 15th), the staff lea ..read more
