In spring this year, I was working away for my clients, when I heard about a webinar we had coming up. I was intrigued, because it was for a marketing course, specifically for tech marketing. With my tech client's big dreams in mind, I joined the webinar to learn more ways I could help him expand his business. Our webinar was curated by Chantel Elliot, and she covered everything that we would go over in a new course, OnRamp.  As soon as Chantel was done speaking (and after some discussion with my coworkers), I decided to apply. I think that this is a big question for many small business owners. Sure, you can handle everything on your own... it's fine right? Sometimes it's not fine. So let's take a look at when it's time to get yourself a Virtual Assistant. 1) You Want More Time for Creativity. This can apply to traditionally creative businesses, like selling art, but can also apply to the rest of the spectrum of other business types. While creativity can sometimes be confused with being artistic, creativity really happens everywhere, it just comes in different forms. If you're an accountant, creativity might ser ..read more

Photo by Jess Bailey on Unsplash  Shortly over one year ago, I found myself looking through job postings during a pandemic, feeling more hopeless as each interview passed. It seemed like no matter what I did, I couldn't cut it. The only jobs that would call me back were robot-style customer support jobs and I knew I wouldn't be happy with that sort of position. I've worked as a customer support robot for years, and while I always did a good job, I was always limited by my employer. I did what everyone does; following posts about people who freelance or work remotely, wishin ..read more

What I Learned Making My First Asset Pack

Recently, I decided to try my hand at making an asset pack for a retro style horror game. I wanted to do this for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I needed to work on my pixel art. I felt confident in making sprites but not necessarily backgrounds. I also wanted to learn to make a tileset so that I could apply it to my own games eventually. As I was doing some research, I was able to find art tutorials, but couldn’t find any technical tutorials on how to execute the files for the tileset. What dimensions should my file be? What file type do I use? How many files do I include? I had so ..read more

So we started going outside...

If you had asked me years ago if I would take Pixel outside, my answer would have been a harsh NO. Outside is scary. There are dogs and other cats and it's so... peopley outside. Throw some general anxiety into the mix and you have a recipe for an indoor cat. That was 6 years ago. Things change. Even anxiety changes. Pixel is an adventure cat now. Right now her adventures happen on our porch but that's just fine. All adventures start somewhere.  At first, I wasn't sure she would take to a harness. Pixel was unphased of course. I suppose to her a harness is about the same as wearing ..read more
