It Is Finished!

We know that the work of the cross was to redeem us from sin and reconcile us back to God. That’s because we inherited our sin nature at birth, which makes us alienated from God when we’re born. God’s plan, from the time Adam and Eve tried to be equal with Him, was to redeem us from that choice. We all have the choice to allow the plan God made for our redemption to change us - or not. What does that mean?  That means that the work of the cross is also to sanctify us after we’ve been redeemed. Unless we allow the work of the Spirit to change us after salvation, we ignore what Jesus did f ..read more

I Identify

How do you identify? It’s a common question today.  I recently received an email from a company that I was doing contract work with, and the names on the email were all followed by parentheses with he/him or she/her to identify whether that person preferred male or female pronouns. Instead of accepting the gender “assigned at birth,” people want to choose whether they are male or female. And the whole of their identity seems to be wrapped around this idea: their self-defined gender is who they are. But gender is just a small piece of this chaotic picture of modern identity. The American ..read more

The Love of God - Part 2

When we talk of the love of God, there is no way we can exhaust the subject; we can barely scratch the surface. God’s love is vast and comprehensive, full and abundant, perfect and unconditional. He loves with everything He is because as the apostle John told us, “God is love”. 1 John 4:11 The love of God is not like the love we picture in our minds where everything goes our way, we are comfortable, have everything we want, and everyone dotes on us. God’s love is hard, painful, and misunderstood, but it’s the greatest love we will ever experience. We can’t be separated from His love because o ..read more

The Love of God - Part 1

The amazing thing about God’s love is that we can’t earn it, and we can’t make Him love us any more than He already does. We don’t fully understand the love of God, but it’s the best thing in this life, and the one to come. When we search the Scriptures that tell us of His love, our understanding grows. When we get to know the God of the Bible, we can better understand the love of God - not expecting love as it is depicted in movies and books, but the truth of what love really is.  I believe the reason we struggle to grasp the truth of God’s love is that we give God our human characterist ..read more

Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."  Jesus answered:  "Don't you know me Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?  John 14:9 “Jesus asked, Do you now believe?” Three years the disciples spent with Jesus watching Him, learning from Him.  They witnessed the sick being healed, the lame walking, deaf hearing, blind seeing, dead raising, storm calming.  They saw Him turn water into wine, multiply fish into a feast, cast out demons, and stand up to the religious leaders.  They listened as He taught with such wisdom a ..read more

Disobedience Does Not Remove Our Inheritance

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.  “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore, I will hope in him.”[1] Lamentations 3:22–24 When I was a child, I don’t quite know what I was taught in Sunday school, but I do distinctly remember fearing the idea of “going to Hell.”  I don’t know if I wasn’t paying attention to the doctrine of God’s grace through Jesus or if I was never taught how it works, but I was 100% certain that the moment I uttered a cuss word th ..read more

What does it mean to be “justified?"

James 2:21-25 (ESV) Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dea ..read more

Worry, The Fear that Kills and the Anxiety that Steals our Peace

One of the many things we are good at as humans is worrying.  Worry may seem like a constant and ever-present disturbance to our daily lives.  Worry is fight or flight response that never seems to turn off and it may seem at times that it has such a strong emotional influence on us that it cannot be ignored. “Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” — Matthew 11:28-30 WORRY, however, is not ..read more
